Cosmetology Instructor: Part-Time Position Purpose: Instructor to provide instruction for the adult education cosmetology program, designed to prepare students for state certification. Knowledge and Skills
• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
• Knowledge of adult education curriculum and concepts,
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
• Knowledge of physical and mental demands and work hazards
• Provides supervision of students in laboratory/clinical settings.
Education and Experience: Any individual wishing to engage in cosmetology instruction, nail care instruction shall meet the following qualifications:
• The applicant shall be in good standing as a cosmetologist and instructor, respectively, in Virginia and all other jurisdictions in connection with the applicant's practice as a cosmetologist, or in the practice of teaching in the profession. This includes monetary penalties, fines, suspensions, revocations, surrender of a license in connection with a disciplinary action, or voluntary termination of a license.
• The applicant shall hold a current Virginia cosmetology license, respectively; The applicant shall:
• Pass a course in teaching techniques at the post-secondary educational level;
• Complete an instructor training course approved by the Virginia Board for Barbers and Cosmetology under the supervision of a cosmetologist instructor in a school,respectively; or
• Pass an examination in cosmetology instruction respectively, administered by the board or by a testing service acting on behalf of the board.
Instructors shall be required to maintain cosmetology license. Equipment Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. Instructs students in the use of required equipment deemed relevant or required by the industry. Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Assignment: Hours: 5:00 – 9:00 pm, Monday - Thursday 8:30 – 3:30 pm – (one Saturday per month) Salary: $ per hour – (6 hours per week) Closing Date: This position will remain open until filled.
