Please note the job description is attached. This is a 12 month – 260 days at 8 hours per day total of 2080 hours per year position as per salary schedule. JOB DESCRIPTION - CLASSIFIED TITLE: Head Mechanic/Transportation Servicing RESPONSIBLE TO: Transportation Supervisor DEPARTMENT: Transportation CLASSIFICATION: Bus Mechanic LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Twelve month contract - 260 days at 8 hours per day - total of 2080 hours per year. Working hours are 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. with a half hour (1/2) hour unpaid lunch period. GENERAL DUTIES: Maintain and repair all school vehicles, including buses, van, trucks, tractors, trailers, and mowers to ensure operation and student transportation; ensure bus garage is safe and clean; assist with repair records; perform emergency road service during and after regular hours; prepare all buses for state inspection; instruct drivers on service and maintenance of vehicles; assist with inventory of parts and supply maintenance. Utilize and implement software, technology, devices used and needed for the transportation department. SPECIFIC DUTIES:

• Maintains school buses, minor repairs, changes oil, lubricates, changes filters, and cleans both inside and Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine repairs.

• Gets all buses ready for state inspections (summer and random).

• Makes necessary repairs/corrections as noted in state

• Performs under-hood checks on regular basis (buses).

• May transport buses to special required locations as needed for necessary

• Responsible for helping Transportation Supervisor coordinate breakdowns and accidents involving school vehicles.

• Fills in as a driver as required. Must have a valid CDL Class B License with School Bus Endorsement or be willing to obtain one as soon as possible.

• Potentially performs Bus Driver Trainer duties as assigned.

• Orders and picks up parts as needed in conjunction with Transportation

• Responsible for cleaning and organizing transportation bay area at the Service

• Maintains mowers, trucks, snow removing equipment, and other power equipment used in the district as time allows and approved by Transportation Supervisor.

• Helps blow snow as needed, particularly at the bus lots and service building area.

• Come in as requested by Transportation Supervisor due to unusual conditions (ex. cold weather and need to help start buses, vandalism, etc.).

• School vehicles cannot be used for private use.

• Mechanic is responsible for providing, and safe guarding his own tools - those needed and not provided by the school district.

• Must work cooperatively with service building personnel and other MCS employees.

• Meets with Transportation Supervisor on a regular basis to discuss repairs, needs, issues, etc.

• Must be neat, clean, and dressed in a manner that reflects a responsible position. Uniforms are provided by the school district.

• Is responsible to Transportation Supervisor and performs other related duties assigned to him/her.

NOTE: The above lists are not ranked in order of importance. Employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment with the District.
