NORTHWEST INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Title: HVAC Technician (0385) Reports To: Executive Director of Facilities Dept./Campus: Facilities, Planning & Construction Duty Days: 261 Days Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: M30 Date Revised: 02/2021 Primary Purpose: Installation, PM, & maintenance, repair, and install of all heating and air conditioning equipment, exhaust systems, air compressors, chillers, steam and hot water boilers in the District, in order to minimize interruptions of the education process. Maintain the safe operation of all HVAC systems in district facilities. Qualifications: Education/Certification Valid Texas driver's license (meet eligibility requirements to drive a district vehicle) CFC Certification Must Maintain Licensure High School Diploma or GED Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material Ability to troubleshoot control systems Ability to perform mathematical calculations Ability to diagnose and resolve problems Ability to use hand and power tools Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques Preferred Experience: Minimum of five (5) years previous experience in HVAC Repair, replacement, & programming of DDC controls Major Responsibilities & Duties:
• Demonstrate acceptable work habits including regular attendance, teamwork, initiative, dependability and promptness.
• Install and maintain of chilled water systems, air-cooled systems, and split systems.
• Repair air moving equipment in heating and cooling.
• Install and repair of electric components.
• Overhaul or replace HVAC air compressors.
• Repair, replace and calibrate thermostats, controls, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.
• Repair or replace all HVAC pumps.
• Repair boilers pertaining to HVAC equipment.
• Change filters, lubricate bearings and motors, check and adjust belt tension, replace belts, clean condensers and evaporator coils.
• Inspect and repair all HVAC drain lines and drain pans.
• Inspect and repair all HVAC pneumatic lines and valves.
• Fabricate, assemble, and install duct work and piping according to specifications and code.
• Wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity controls according to wiring schematics.
• Maintain Freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.
• Maintain preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for all HVAC equipment, including changing of filters and cleaning condensers and coils.
• Perform duct cleaning and air quality testing as needed.
• Assist energy manager to complete energy conservation surveys to realize most efficient, cost effective use of HVAC energy.
• Receive and complete work orders.
• Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
• Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
• Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure area are clean.
• Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.
• Respond to emergency calls as needed.
• Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
• Inspect and repair all kitchen make-up air units and exhaust systems.
• Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as needed basis.
