About this role
Sioux Center Community Schools has an immediate opening for a Part-time Technology Specials Teacher. We are looking for an individual to ignite students' curiosity through hands-on, project-based learning that connects Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math to real-world applications. Teaching across short course rotations (e.g., 6-week units), you will guide students through foundational coding, digital media, design thinking, and practical problem-solving. The ideal candidate should have a passion for technology, experience in working with young students of various abilities, and the capability to foster a supportive, engaging, and inclusive educational environment. Qualifications:
• Education:
• Bachelor's Degree in Education, Instructional Technology, STEM Education or related field
• Valid State of Iowa teaching license with appropriate K-8 or Middle School endorsement.
• Preferred:
• Experience as a STEM, technology or computer science teacher
• Strong management skills in classroom technology
• Excellent communication, time management and interpersonal skills.
• Strong knowledge of computer software
Responsibilities:
• Design & deliver engaging, project-based STEM and technology units tailored to 4th-8th grade developmental levels
• Facilitate 40 minute hands-on lab sessions that emphasize the engineering design process (Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Test, Improve)
• Maintain and manage materspace/STEM lab equipment including computers, robotics kits, 3D printers and recording gear.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
• Establish a structured, collaborate and safe lab environment where students feel confident experimenting, failing safely and iterating on their designs.
• Teach and enforce proper care, safety protocols and responsible handling of digital devices and lab tools.
• Participate in initiating, implementing and coordinating any changes in curriculum and collaboration.
• Stay current with emerging education technologies and STEM teaching practices.
• Maintain district policies and regulations.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.
