Job Type: Internship Total work time - 112 hours Salary: $10.00 per hour Job Goal The Plaquemines Parish School District is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Student Intern | Pre-Educator to assist in supporting classroom activities and student learning experiences. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in education to gain valuable hands-on experience in a school environment. The intern will work closely with teachers and staff to support instructional activities, assist with classroom management and help foster a positive learning environment for students. Qualifications (minimum education, licensure, skills and/or experience) Required

• Currently enrolled in a Plaquemines Parish School Board high school with the class designation of junior or senior.

• Strong interest in pursuing a career in education or a related field.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Ability to work well with children and exhibit patience, enthusiasm and positivity.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.

• Ability to follow directions and work independently or as part of a team.

• Dependability, reliability and a strong work ethic.

• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, educational software and electronic communication.

Preferred

• Previous experience working with children or in a school setting.

• Familiarity with classroom management strategies and teaching techniques.

• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) / First Aid certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists the classroom teacher with planning and delivering lessons to students.

• Provides one (1)-on-one (1) or small group support to students, reinforcing concepts and assisting with assignments.

• Helps manage classroom materials, including organizing supplies and preparing educational materials.

• Supervises students during classroom activities, recess and lunch, ensuring a safe and productive environment.

• Aids with grading assignments, tests and other student work as directed by the teacher.

• Supports the teacher with classroom management, helping maintain a positive and organized learning environment.

• Observes and participates in classroom activities, gaining insights into teaching strategies and student engagement techniques.

• Helps track and monitor student progress, providing feedback to the teacher on student performance and behavior.

• Aids with creating bulletin boards, displays and other classroom decorations.

• Supports extracurricular activities and events organized by the teacher or school.

• Participates in professional development opportunities and school meetings as appropriate.

• Performs additional duties as assigned by the teacher or school administration.

• Develops skills in providing academic support to students, including small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements This role primarily operates in an indoor, climate-controlled environment, with occasional exposure to moderate temperature variations. The usual methods of performing job functions require light lifting (ten to twenty [10-20] pounds), carrying, pushing and pulling, with frequent engagement in activities such as standing, walking and sitting. Additional physical requirements include extended use of a computer for data analysis, report generation, communication and administrative duties; alternating between sitting and standing for meetings, presentations and other administrative activities; ability to drive within or outside of the district to various schools, meetings and events; and occasional travel outside the district for conferences, site visits or professional development.
