EDUCATIONAL SERVICE UNIT #3 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Kitchen Assistant/Classroom substitute Job Title Code: 2141 Number of Days Worked: 204 Days, 4.5 hours per day Department: Sarpy County Head Start FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Immediate Supervisor: Health and Nutrition Specialist Staff Supervised: N/A Essential Requirements:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required

• Prior food service experience is preferred but not required

• Able to complete food handler's course and obtain license within one year of employment

• CPR/First Aid certificate or able to successfully complete course

• CACFP training is preferred but not required

• Head Start experience preferred (minimum of two years) but not required

• This position is eligible for VEOA Veterans' Preference

• Successfully pass required background checks.

• Regular and dependable in person attendance is required and is considered a condition of employment.

• The assigned duties of this position are not eligible for remote work consideration.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Understand and comply with the ESU #3 Board of Education Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.

• Maintain positive working relationships with program co-workers, specialists, and supervisor(s)

• Attend all professional development activities as required by the agency and job duties.

• Receive food/beverage from food contractor and review required paperwork.

• Maintain food carts to ensure appropriate amounts of nutritional supplies.

• Serve food/beverage according to CACFP portions/regulations and deliver to individual classrooms.

• Ensure correct food substitutions are made for children with food allergies/religious preference.

• Maintain a clean, safe, sanitary work environment to include overseeing the cleaning of dishes, linens and other classroom supplies (e.g., bibs, washcloths)

• Participate in health and nutrition activities to include (but not limited to) CACFP, NAP SACC, family style meals

• Provide meal/food related assistance in classrooms such as: feeding babies, cleaning up after meals, assistance with serving and cutting foods

• Inventory and order supplies at site. Refill dispensers as needed.

• Cover EHS/HS classrooms as needed in times of staff absences and/or emergency situations or during daily activities that require additional staffing.

• Utilize active supervision guidelines to ensure that all necessary and reasonable precautions are taken to protect children and monitor the learning environment for health and safety.

• Participate in health and nutrition activities to include family style meals.

• Support the learning environment and assist with various activities in the classroom as directed by the Head Start/Early Head Start staff.

• Other duties as assigned.
