About this role

Job Title: Para educator (General Education and Special Education)

Reports to: Classroom Teacher and Building Principal

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Status: Full and/or Part-Time, Hourly

Basic Function: Provide support to the teaching staff and administration in the supervision and educational reinforcement of educating our students.

Start/end time: As assigned by building supervisor

Essential Functions:

• Under the supervision and with instruction of the teacher, assist students in individual, small and large group instruction.

• Assist with supervising students in the lunchroom, restrooms, halls, playground, bus duty, and in those areas as determined by administration or supervising teacher.

• Monitor classes during teacher absences of short duration.

• Assist with wash-up and toilet routines.

• Assist in preparation of instructional materials. Follows instructional plans as implemented by the general education and/or special education teacher.

• Implements accommodations, modifications, and specialized strategies designed by the special education teacher.

• Provides specialized assistance to assigned students as needed (Personal and/or restroom care).

• Assists and supports classroom assessment of student performance.

• Assists the special education teacher in collecting and documenting student progress towards IEP goals.

• Serve as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.

• Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.

• Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.

• Administer, score, and record such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.

• Be professional with students utilizing firmness, friendliness and fairness.

• Know emergency procedures for the building and classrooms within which you work.

• Report incidents of unusual nature to teachers and principal.

• Communicate and cooperate with staff members.

• Participate in professional training, when required.

• Follow district policies and procedures/staff handbook.

• Attend meetings such as an IEP or other regular meetings set by the special education teacher or district.

• Duties as assigned.

Specifications/Qualifications: High School Diploma

Physical Requirements/Environment: Able to lift 50 lbs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As set in the individual's letter of employment.
