LOUISA COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS Job Description Job Title: Benefits Specialist / 12 month positions / 260 days Reports To: Director of Finance FLSA Status: Non-exempt SUMMARY Performs the administration of all benefits and retirement programs ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Enrolls new employees in benefit plans.
• Processes status changes and reviews claims.
• Prepares open enrollment process, documentation and schedule with assistance from supervisor.
• Processes open enrollment benefit plan transfers.
• Maintains vendor contact to investigate discrepancies and provide information in non-routine situations.
• Provides vendors appropriate documentation for life, pension, and disability benefits claims.
• Assists in preparing materials and in presenting benefit plan changes to employees.
• Issues annual individual summary of benefits to employees.
• Assists employees with retirement planning and preparation, including providing information regarding retirement benefits, procedures, and required documentation.
• Administers Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests and processes, ensuring appropriate documentation, tracking, and communication with employees and applicable departments.
• Coordinates Short-Term Disability claims and provides support and guidance to employees throughout the claim process.
• Maintains employee benefit files and other record keeping.

• Knowledge of benefit and retirement procedures, practices and operations of a public school.
• Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
• Ability to establish and maintain a variety of record keeping, reference and data collection systems.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Candidate must possess any combination or education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. General office computer skills with commonly used software programs required.
