However, the current incumbent has a right to rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation up until the day of the expected vacancy date. REPORTS TO: Director of Analytics Boston Public Schools is seeking to fill the position of Secondary Schools Analyst in the Office of Data and Accountability (ODA). The Secondary Schools Analyst will work to establish district-wide systems and processes to track student access, participation, progress through and completion of high-quality career pathways that prepare students for success after graduation. Career pathways in BPS include but are not limited to Chapter 74 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, Early College pathways, and Innovation pathways. This position will involve a high level of coordination with internal BPS departments as well as external community partners,including, but not limited to, Edvestors, the Boston Private Industry Council and community colleges. The Secondary Schools Analyst will create dashboards, complete standard reporting, and conduct strategic analyses related to career pathways and equitable access to these opportunities within BPS, using data including but not limited to participation in CTE, Early College or Innovation pathways, attainment of industry-recognized credentials, and postsecondary outcomes. Working in partnership with the ODA and Office of College, Career, and Life Readiness (CCLR), the analyst will also conduct analyses and advance strategic initiatives, using data including but not limited to standardized test scores (MCAS, AP, SAT, etc), attendance, coursework, out-of-school time programs, and post-secondary experiences. As a member of a highly collaborative group, and given the time-sensitive nature of many of these analyses, the Secondary Schools Analyst can expect to rely on the experience of other analysts within ODA, and will be expected in turn to support the work of colleagues on related projects. RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Establish district-wide systems and processes to track student access, participation and progress through career pathways:

• Conduct a needs assessment to understand the current landscape of available data related to career pathways in BPS

• Create and coordinate a cross-department team to:

• map out current career and planned career pathways in BPS, and

• develop systems and processes to track access, participation, progress through and completion of these pathways

• Develop process to monitor, track and report pathway students completion of aligned college-level coursework (Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate)

• Utilize user-centered design principles to understand pain points and opportunities for improvement of data access and use across all stakeholders

• Develop an annual process to gather student and parent perspectives on access to career and academic planning and career pathways across grades 6-12

• Manage the administration and reporting of the annual Senior Exit Survey, a tool used by the district and community partners to understand student perceptions around high school experience and preparation for post-secondary plans.

• Develop and support the implementation of a data-driven understanding of career pathways across BPS:

• Work with the Office of College, Career, and Life Readiness and the Office of Data and Accountability to identify areas for analysis related to career pathways and CCLR initiatives

• Develop dashboards using PowerBI and ad-hoc standardized reports to increase access to key performance indicators and related data

• Work with the Office of College, Career, and Life Readiness to fulfill all state and grant reporting requirements related to CTE, including identifying opportunities to implement process efficiencies

• Fulfill career pathways- and CCLR-related data requests from internal and external members of the BPS community.

• Perform various analyses on student-level, school-level, and district-level career pathways and provide relevant policy recommendations based on analyses.

• Generate reports and deliver findings for both technical and non-technical audiences based on the results of analyses.

• Expand the capacity of internal BPS departments, schools, and external community partners to access and effectively use career pathways and CCLR data

• Serve as a member of the data working group of the New Skills Ready Network, a cross-sector initiative focused on increasing equitable access to career pathways.

• Map data flows within organizations and between organizations at the secondary and postsecondary level to coordinate the shared data systems and build capacity/provide the resources needed for accurate and complete data collection and analysis.

• Monitor and provide monthly aggregate school-based reports on CCLR milestone completion utilizing data from district and state systems.

• Develop a professional development model for school counselors specific to current data systems and use of CCLR data within school-based intervention teams.

• Provide technical assistance to school staff, central staff and external community partners regarding career pathways data needs and analyses.

• Support student privacy regulations as mandated by FERPA, HIPAA, IDEA, MA DESE, City of Boston, and BPS; facilitate the execution of data sharing agreements where applicable

• Perform other relevant duties in the Office of Data and Accountability and Office of College, Career, and Life Readiness as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:

• Bachelor's Degree in related field

• Minimum of 2 years of data analysis experience, preferably in K – 12 education.

• Strong analytic and data systems management skills, as well as extremely strong attention to detail.

• Proficiency and/or expertise with statistical analysis software and programming languages (preferably STATA, R, SQL)

• Enthusiasm for working on technical projects with a diverse team to completion.

• Excellent time management skills, experience balancing competing priorities, and prioritizing resources.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Strong customer service focus.

• Strong problem-solving skills.

• The ability to explain complex analytical concepts in clear and concise terms.

• The ability to react to requests with both flexibility and firmness (and the ability to distinguish when to use which skill).

• Ability to communicate with diverse audiences and experience with Boston, its neighborhoods and schools.

• A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education and BPS' role as an anti-racist organization.

• Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:

• Master's Degree

• Experience collaborating across departmental lines

• Experience with post-secondary and workforce readiness programs

• Knowledge of the Ed-Fi data standard
