About this role

Under the direct supervision of the Director of School Safety and Security, the School Safety and Security Coordinator will perform skilled professional work in the planning, development, and implementation of school building and property security operations. This position will work cooperatively with the various emergency response agencies to include the Sheriff's Office, Fire Marshal's Office, Fire and Rescue and the Office of Emergency Management. Essential Job Functions:

• Works cooperatively with the Director of School Safety and Security through the process or use of facility audits, building security, cameras, and the Raptor security systems.

• Liaisons with Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office leadership to develop and implement the School Resource Officer Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Agreement.

• Works directly with the School Resource Officer (SRO) program as detailed in the MOU, in collaboration with the Sheriff's Office, and serves as the liaison for the school division for all matters related to law enforcement to include the coordination of security activities and staffing with local law enforcement agencies.

• Serves as the School Division's liaison with the Fire Marshal's Office and accompanies the Fire Marshal during inspections of school facilities and addresses any non-compliance issues with building administrators as defined in the Code of Virginia.

• Coordinates directly with the Fire Marshal, Sheriff's Office and Building Administrators on large scale special events (i.e. graduations) to plan and support appropriate security measures, logistics and to ensure proper code compliance; assists building Administrators and Athletic Directors with crowd management and event safety plans.

• Manages the School Security Officer (SSO) program and works cooperatively with building administrators as related to SSO roles, responsibilities, training and staff development.

• Maintains the Raptor Building Security systems and works cooperatively with Human Resources and School Technology to maintain appropriate persons and emergency drill management.

• Coordinates with building administrators, maintenance staff, and law enforcement to conduct annual school safety assessments and audits as required by the Department of Criminal Justice (DCJS) and the Department of Education (DOE).

• Conducts ongoing training and development to School Division staff on topics such as Threat Assessments, Standard Response Protocols, Standard Reunification Method, and other training to minimize workplace violence.

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Criminal Justice, Administration, Security or a related field from an accredited college or university

• Three (3) years of experience serving in Administration, Law Enforcement Supervision, or School Safety Management

• Must have completed or be willing to complete a certification process through the Department of Criminal Justice Services.

• Must have completed or be willing to complete certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, OSHA 30, CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) and Crowd Control Management.

• Current (valid, not expired) Virginia State Driver's License.

Special Requirements:

• This position is designated as "Essential Personnel", which requires that employees be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week for emergency situations, including weather and other building emergencies
