About this role

Job summary

We are looking for an experienced renal nurse to become part of this highly skilled team, this position will also be a developing role within the vasculitis / Lupus patient group. We have identified the need for a specific nurse to support and oversee this group of patients. You will oversee the delivery of high quality, safe, effective care focused on improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families and carers.

You will have the support of the Senior Clinical Nurse specialists & Senior Sisters.

Main duties of the job

Act as a clinical expert within your sphere of work. Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision. Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care as appropriate within an outpatient setting. Organise the nursing teams workload ensuring most effective use of time. Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures. Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested. Lead the annual appraisal process and ensure all staff have an individual performance review and a personal development plan in place. To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence-based practice. Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to the speciality as required. The post-holder must maintain confidentiality of information about staff, patients and health service business and be aware of the Data Protection Act (1984) and Access to Health Records Act (1990).

Person Specification

Education and Professional Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience. Relevant specialist course or equivalent experience

Desirable

Management qualification or equivalent experience Graduate

Experience Essential

Minimum of 5 years post registration experience Minimum of 4 years experience within speciality Minimum of 2 years experience of leading and developing a team within a junior sister/charge nurse post. Experience in managing resources (both staff and non-staff)

Desirable

Experience in change management Experience in managing a budget

Skills/Abilities Essential

Organisation, administrative and management skills. Teaching Ability to lead a team. Ability to problem solve. Coaching skills. Articulate with advanced written and oral communication skills. Ability to appraise staff. Ability to work effectively under pressure. Ability to perform clinical activities specific to speciality. Competency in medication administration including IV drugs. IT skills including use of email and office packages.
