About this role

Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Audiologist to join our busy, friendly, and forward-thinking Audiology service in Bedfordshire.

You will work at a senior level, predominantly within our adult audiology service, based primarily at Bedford Hospital, with opportunities to provide support across our two provider sites, including Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

Your main responsibilities will include conducting hearing assessments and providing associated rehabilitation for adult patients, including those with severe, profound, and complex hearing needs. You will also provide audiology support to ENT outpatient clinics, working with both adult and paediatric patients.

As an experienced Audiologist, you will play an important role in supporting the development of our Audiology trainees through teaching, coaching, and sharing your expertise. Excellent communication skills, a strong patient-centred approach, and behaviours aligned with our Trust's values are essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work at a senior level as part of a comprehensive diagnostic audiology and hearing rehabilitation service.

The role will involve providing a range of diagnostic audiology services, including audiology support to ENT clinics, where the post holder will assess both paediatric and adult patients. The post holder will also contribute to the adult hearing rehabilitation service, including the assessment and management of patients with complex needs.

In addition, the post holder will play an active role in the department's training programme, supporting and developing Audiology students through teaching, supervision, and practical guidance.

Key Responsibilities Provide Audiology cover for ENT outpatient clinics, assessing both paediatric and adult patients. This will include masked air and bone conduction audiometry, tympanometry, acoustic reflex testing, and otoacoustic emission testing.

Explain and discuss test results with patients and their families or carers, ensuring information is communicated clearly and appropriately.

Contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive diagnostic audiology service, including the analysis, interpretation, and reporting of routine and complex test procedures under indirect supervision.

Arrange hearing aids for ENT outpatient patients where required, including initial assessment, obtaining consent, preliminary counselling, and entering relevant patient information and test data into the Patient Management System (PMS).

Participate in the adult hearing aid and aural rehabilitation service, including the direct GP referral pathway for patients aged 18 and over.

Take responsibility for managing routine and complex patient pathways under indirect supervision.

Undertake appropriate assessments and comprehensive history taking, tailored to the individual needs of each patient.
