About this role

Job summary

We have an opportunity to recruit a SLT practitioner fixed term for eight months in our Hillingdon Community Learning Disability Service

We have recently recruited a Speech and Language Therapist and are looking to supplement this post with an Associate Practitioner. This is a unique opportunity to support the SLT in the development of a safe and efficient speech and language therapy service for adults with learning disabilities.

The Speech and Language Therapy Team consist of therapists in other Community Learning Disability Teams within CNWL as well as working alongside our community SLT colleagues.

This role involves a mixture of clinical and administrative support to the SLT and wider team where appropriate.

We are looking for applicants who have a passion and commitment to working with people with Learning Disabilities and their circle of support.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone with experience of working with children and/or adults with learning disabilities and Autism or someone with transferable skills to work with this service user group.

You will be able to demonstrate:

Excellent organisational skills

Competent IT Skills to develop understanding of our electronic patient recording system (Systmone).

You will be able to follow instruction, but also demonstrate initiative and creativity in response to the different aspects of the role

Your passion and enthusiasm to make a positive difference and deliver exemplary, client-focussed care for all our adults and their families/carers. Confident to work in a range of settings, including, social care day services, client work places and client homes You will have excellent time management and the ability to work independently and creatively Excellent interpersonal communication skillsto work with Service Users and alongside other health and social care professionals

About us

The post holder will be part of the wider Community Learning Disability Team, with strong working relationships with Adut Social Care and the Community Physical Health Teams and will be linked to the wider trust Speech and Language Therapy networks. You will meet regularly with other SLT colleagues working in CNWL Learning Disabilities network to continue professional development, implement evidence-based practice and support development of the Learning Disabilities Speech and Language Therapy service within CNWL.

We are committed to delivering a high-quality service and have a strong culture of training and development of clinical specialisms e.g. autism, dementia, dysphagia, AAC, mental health, positive behaviour support etc. There is also scope for shadowing and training opportunities across neighbouring services including acute SLT services at local Hospitals, Adult Community SLT and paediatric services.

You will be able to contribute to and help develop our working practices within the team and input to new clinical pathways and Quality Improvement projects.

Hillingdon is vibrant, multicultural area and is very easily accessible from central London on the Jubilee and Metropolitan Lines, taking around 35 minutes to Baker Street station.

Delivering specific and specialist SLT interventions to Service Users under the supervision of a Speech and Language Therapist

Support SLTs in their assessment and review of Service Users communication and dysphagia needs Working alongside another SLT or SLT Assistant to deliver group interventions and be involved in parent orientation sessions Working alongside the service SLT and wider team to organise and deliver training events for carers and other professionals

Working alongside qualified SLTs to develop AAC (alternative/augmentative communication) resources and support Service Users in the use of high tech communication aids

Administrative tasks both in the office and in the community.

Being a Champion for Easy Read documentation

Past experience as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant is desirable but not essential

Good general education Relevant B Tech Diploma Level or Degree or NVQ4 or equivalent skill acquired through experience

Accredited IT qualifications or equivalent skill level
