Job SummaryThe selectee will serve as the Office Automation Clerk (Typist) in the Office of the Chief, Environmental Management Service (EMS), Miami VA Healthcare System. The position performs clerical and office automation work supporting multiple sections within EMS.

QualificationsTo qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/20/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-4 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-3. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience for GS-4: 1 year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Experience such as: Performing computer based typing, Providing clerical support for meetings, including recording notes and preparing routine summaries as directed, Use of office automation systems and various Microsoft software packages to accomplish work, and assisting with ordering and maintaining common use office supplies. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years of education above high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university to equal an Associate degree or 60 semester credit hours. (Transcripts Required) OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages to qualify for grade level. Major DutiesDuties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the general office work to include the filling and records safekeeping in accordance with agency policies, keeps calendar and schedules appointments, meetings and conferences upon own initiative based upon personal knowledge of the Chief's workload and current issues of importance. Maintain and update general files, project files, contracts files for the Chief, Facility Management Service. Assist in the training of new clerical personnel in preparation of correspondence, minutes, personnel actions, disciplinary actions, reproduction requests, request for supplies, performance appraisal and/or initial/subsequent competence assessments. Attends meeting and conference calls and acts as recorder. Follows up on actions pending for all meetings. Also compiles staff minutes and coordinates staff appointments. Receives telephone calls and visitors from the general public, National Headquarters, VISN and Medical Center employees. Compose letters, memorandums and reports from general directions and/or knowledge of Facility Management Service programs and data available in files. Responsible of processing new employees PIV identification cards utilizing a computerized system. Server as alternate timekeeper and must monitor and report time and attendance.
