About this role

Job Title: DesignerJob DescriptionThe Designer will prepare pipeline, facility, and public improvement plan designs with increasing levels of independence, contributing to the successful delivery of engineering and construction projects. This role focuses on developing detailed site plans and construction documentation for natural gas utility and pipeline distribution projects, while demonstrating advanced AutoCAD proficiency and a strong understanding of utility and pipeline design principles. Responsibilities • Prepare pipeline, facility, and public improvement plan designs with increasing levels of independence. • Develop site plans, plan and profile drawings, alignments, cross-sections, elevations, and comprehensive construction documentation. • Review and interpret survey data, utility locates, environmental reports, geotechnical information, and site plans to support accurate design development. • Create, manage, and update drawing packages using AutoCAD, Sheet Set Manager, and X-Ref files. • Perform design and permit drawing reviews to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards and environmental regulations. • Apply knowledge of pipeline stationing, industrial meter sets, tie-in fittings, installation methods, and construction practices in design work. • Coordinate and integrate third-party CAD files, survey information, and project documentation into cohesive design packages. • Demonstrate advanced AutoCAD skills in the context of gas utility and pipeline distribution design. • Independently complete small to moderately complex design projects while maintaining project standards, schedules, and deliverables. • Build upon Associate Designer responsibilities by supporting engineering and construction teams through accurate design drafting and permitting documentation. Essential Skills • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, including experience with Sheet Set Manager and X-Ref files. • Hands-on experience in gas utility and pipeline distribution design. • Ability to develop detailed site plans, plan/profile drawings, alignments, cross-sections, and elevations. • Experience interpreting survey plans, utility locates, environmental reports, geotechnical information, and related technical documentation. • Knowledge of pipeline stationing, industrial meter sets, tie-in fittings, installation methods, and construction practices. • Experience with design drafting, permitting processes, and adherence to environmental regulations. • Background in engineering, drafting, or CAD design for natural gas or utility projects. • Drafting certification or equivalent work experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in the natural gas industry is highly preferred. • Ability to coordinate and integrate third-party CAD files and survey information. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy in design work. • Ability to work independently on small to moderately complex projects while following established standards. • Effective communication skills to collaborate with project teams across multiple time zones. • Comfort working in a fully remote environment using digital collaboration tools. Work EnvironmentThis is a 100% remote role within the United States, with employees located across multiple time zones and in numerous states. While employment is not available in certain states, the team is distributed broadly and does not require proximity to a specific city or region. Core hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility to adjust start and end times based on the candidate’s location, as long as the majority of the workday overlaps with core business hours to ensure access to training, IT support, and team resources. The organization promotes a strong work-life balance, keeps workweeks within a 40-hour schedule, and does not expect overtime. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $43.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
