This role is centered on deep technical extrusion expertise, materials knowledge, hands-on troubleshooting, and continuous improvement—rather than broad department leadership. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who understands plastic compounds, resins, pellets, additives, and formulations, as well as how material composition and processing conditions impact production performance and finished-product quality. While the focus of this role is technical, directly supervising and managing a small team of extrusion operators/technicians is a required part of the position. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced extrusion professional to apply deep technical knowledge in a role that also requires hands-on people management, with a company focused on quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Extrusion Technical Lead Responsibilities • Serve as the hands-on technical subject matter expert for plastic extrusion processes • Understand and monitor compounds, resins, pellets, additives, and material formulations • Troubleshoot production and quality issues involving materials and extrusion processing conditions • Monitor production output, scrap, downtime, and product quality • Inspect products in process to ensure specifications are met • Identify opportunities to improve throughput, quality, efficiency, and material utilization • Develop and refine extrusion process parameters, setups, and standard work • Ensure safety, quality, operating, and training procedures are followed • Directly supervise, train, coach, and evaluate a small team of extrusion operators/technicians • Schedule daily activities and coordinate resources for direct reports • Communicate technical issues and production performance to management Extrusion Technical Lead Qualifications • 3+ years of plastic extrusion manufacturing experience required • Plastic tubing, cylinder, or similar profile extrusion experience required • Strong understanding of compounds, resins, pellets, additives, and formulations required • Knowledge of extrusion variables including temperature, pressure, speed, cooling, and material flow required • Prior experience directly supervising, training, or managing production or technical staff required
