Job Description
We are a well-established accounting office located in Vaughan and are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented *Accounting Clerk / Bookkeeping Assistant* to join our team.
This position is suited to someone who is comfortable working with numbers, bookkeeping records, Microsoft Excel and general accounting administration.
The successful candidate will assist with day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting work and will work with corporate and individual client records under the supervision of senior accounting staff.
Responsibilities
· Perform bookkeeping and general accounting data entry.
· Enter and categorize bank and credit card transactions.
· Prepare bank and credit card reconciliations.
· Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable records.
· Record invoices, expenses, payments and deposits.
· Prepare and maintain accounting schedules using Microsoft Excel.
· Organize financial information received from clients.
· Review bookkeeping records for missing or unusual transactions.
· Assist with preparation of year-end accounting files.
· Prepare basic working paper schedules for review by senior accounting staff.
· Maintain electronic accounting files and supporting documentation.
· Assist with HST/GST bookkeeping and reconciliations.
· Assist with payroll records and payroll-related calculations where required.
· Communicate with clients to obtain missing invoices, statements and other accounting information.
· Perform general administrative duties related to accounting files.
· Maintain accurate and organized client records.
Qualifications
· Previous bookkeeping, accounting clerk or accounting administrative experience is a must.
· College diploma or coursework in accounting, bookkeeping, business administration or a related field is preferable.
· Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
· Comfortable working with spreadsheets, formulas, sorting, filtering and reconciliation schedules.
· Good numerical and analytical skills.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Ability to organize financial documents and maintain accurate records.
· Ability to manage several files and deadlines at the same time.
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently after receiving instructions.
Software Experience
Experience with any of the following is an asset:
· Microsoft Excel
· QuickBooks
· CaseWare
· TaxCycle
Training can be provided for firm-specific software.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is organized, comfortable working with numbers and able to follow accounting procedures consistently.
Previous experience working in a Canadian accounting office is considered an asset.
Schedule
· Full-time
· Monday to Friday
· On-site in Vaughan/Concord, Ontario
