About this role

Job summary

Radiology Services is seeking to appoint a new full time (10 PA) Locum Consultant Neuroradiologist. The post is for 12 months and is required to fill temporary vacancies and to meet increasing demand for our services.

Please note we are looking for someone who is able to start immediately.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at Guy's and St. Thomas'. However, it is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the Trust, either on an on-going or temporary basis according to the demands of the service.

We would like to appoint a locum (10PA) Consultant Radiologist (9 DCC / 1 SPA) with subspecialist Neuroradiology experience. This post is required to meet increasing demand for neuroradiological reporting and to help further support the growing Neuroradiology service. The post holder will be involved in the full range of neuroradiology imaging, including MRI brain, spine and neurovascular reporting for both acute and outpatient settings. Specialised reporting and MDM commitments might be required depending on the applicant skill set and service need.

Job description Job responsibilities

Guys and St Thomas provide specialist Neuroradiology services for Neurofibromatosis Type 1 and Type 2, sickle cell disease, neuro-ophthalmology, infectious diseases and neuro-oncology stereotactic radiosurgical intervention (SRS).

The departmental neuroradiology case mix is diverse, cultivating close interdisciplinary collaboration, promoting a rewarding work experience. We pride ourselves on providing a nurturing and collegiate atmosphere, and where needed we will support the appointee in any areas needed to further develop skills and experience. There is also the opportunity for Home Reporting sessions.

The site of St Thomas hospital is also home to Evelina London Childrens Hospital providing local and subspecialist paediatric services. As part of this neuroradiology consultant position candidates may be required to report paediatric neuroradiology studies. It is therefore a desirable criteria that candidates have some prior paediatric neuroradiology experience, though not essential. Knowledge and experience can be built upon within the role and appointed consultants supported in the further development of these skills.

Person Specification

Professional Qualifications Essential

Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practice On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT. FRCR or equivalent

Clinical Experience & Skills Essential

Completion of specialist radiology training programme Independent performance and reporting of general CT< MRI and X-ray imaging.

Desirable

Experience in participating and leading multidisciplinary meetings Experience of Independent MDM work

Audit Management and IT Essential

Understand the role of clinical governance and audit in a successful department. Management and IT skills. Understanding of principles of audit.

Desirable

Specific audits in Radiology.

Research, Teaching skill & experience Essential

Understand the importance of research and its role in imaging. Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.

Desirable

Track record of published research in peer reviewed publications. Innovative and enthusiastic approach to imaging research

Leadership / Management skills Essential

Excellent leadership skills and ability to motivate a team. Communication; Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate. Accountability; Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority. Interpersonal Skills; Empathy, understanding, listening skills, patience and ability to work co-operatively with others. Interpersonal Skills; Able to change and adapt, respond to changing circumstances and to cope with setbacks or pressure.
