About this role

Job summary

Opportunities have arisen for a Junior Clinical Fellow to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Your work within the Critical Care Unit at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust will be based at Royal Preston Hospital (RPH).

There is a 34-beded critical care unit admitting over 1300 patients per year at Royal Preston Hospital, this is a mixed unit made up of level 2 & 3 beds. It has a varied case mix including General Medicine, General Surgery, Trauma, Vascular, Renal Neurosciences, Upper-Gastrointestinal and Maxillofacial Surgery.

There's also an Enhanced Care Unit at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital run by 20 Consultants with an interest in Intensive Care, along with junior support staff.

The unit at Preston has accreditations for all stages of Intensive Care Medicine training.

The Department has undergone a period of rapid expansion, which is reflected in the age and attitude of its career grade members.

This is a fixed-term post for 6 months due to short-term funding.

Main duties of the job

Provide a Critical Care service at Royal Preston Participate in the trainee critical care rota with additional cover during colleagues' absence. Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than full-time and ensure, in consultation with colleagues, that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development. Exercise the freedom to develop specialist elements of the services to reflect perceived priorities within available resources. Provide care to critically ill patients across and participate in the on call rota for RPH site. Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients. Promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the theatre environment. Maintain continuing education and professional development at least to the requirements of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine

Modern Education Centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites and offer excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students.

Qualifications Essential

Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice MBBS or equivalent Eligibility to work in the UK

Desirable

Previous employment in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine in the UK Hold ALS certification or equivalent* ALS/ATLS/APLS Instructor Management experience/ certification Research experience, leading to peer reviewed publication

Health Essential

Meets professional health requirements in line with GMC Standards/ Good Medical Practice

Experience and Skill Essential

Have at least 2 years of Foundation Year employment or have equivalent experience and competencies.

Personal Essential

Proven effective communication skills with examples. Good organisation skills with examples Works well within a multidisciplinary environment.
