About this role
Aquatic Swim Lesson Volunteers assist certified swim instructors with a variety of swim lessons for children and provide active supervision to ensure the safety of all participants.
Responsibilities:
• Support the assigned swim instructor with safety supervision and management of children during lessons
• Provide coaching, demonstrations, and support to children under instructor direction
• Set out lesson toys/equipment in the appropriate spots before class starts and put them away after lessons
• Model appropriate behavior during lessons: listen to the instructor, sit with the group during instructions, etc.
• Enforce Westside pool rules and know how to assist in emergency procedures
• Welcome participants and patrons, and direct questions to the Lifeguard/Instructor
• Check messages and communicate regularly with supervisors
• Log hours on the appropriate time sheet
• Be reliable and punctual (arrive ready for shift in proper uniform).
Qualities:
• Willing to learn new processes and follow procedures
• Enthusiastic, helpful, courteous, and comfortable interacting with children and families
WORK TERM:
• September – June.
• Evenings and weekends.
• 2 shifts/week. Shifts are 2-3 hours long.
QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Between 13 and 17 years of age.
• Completion of minimum Emergency First Aid with CPR C or Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion Certification.
• Completion of Volunteer Training – Provided by Westside.
