About this role

Children's Program Volunteers assist leaders with preparing and implementing a variety of sport programs for children ages 6-12Y.

Responsibilities:

• Review lesson plans to be aware of the activities scheduled for that day

• Welcome participants and patrons as they enter the space or program

• Actively participate in program activities and interact positively with children

• Assist participants in developing and practicing new skills

• Help with set-up and take-down of equipment associated with the program

• Assist with cleaning the space and supplies

• Supervise participants and ensure they are following safety rules and guidelines

• Know how to assist in emergency procedures

• Model appropriate behavior: listen to the leader(s), sit with the group during instructions, etc.

• Help with demonstrations or instructions as requested by the leader(s)

• Give positive feedback to participants

• Check messages and communicate regularly with supervisors

• Log hours on the appropriate time sheet

• Be reliable and punctual (arrive ready for shift in proper uniform)

Qualities:

• Willing to learn new processes and follow procedures

• Enthusiastic and a positive role model for children

Work Term:

• September – June

• Evenings and weekends

• 2 shifts/week. Shifts are 2-3 hours long.

Qualifications/Skills Required:

• Between 13 and 17 years of age

• Completion of minimum of Emergency First Aid with CPR C or Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion Certification

• Completion of Volunteer Training – Provided by Westside
