The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), based upon Washington State licensure and scope of practice as defined by Samaritan Clinic Leadership, is responsible for providing patient care to his/her assigned patients under the supervision of the Provider (physician, PA or ARNP) or RN. Provides care to whose requirements are routine and standardized and whose outcomes are predictable.
This is a fulltime position working Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30am-5:30pm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Escort patients to exam room; take and record height, weight, vitals, temperature, and take history of new patients.
2. Schedule and notify patients of appointments and test results in collaboration with physician's, PA's, and ARNP's.
3. Use physician established provider protocols for answering patient queries and questions.
4. Answer patient's questions using information provided by physician and/or practitioners to answer patient queries.
5. Conduct and assist, by administering, as indicated: pregnancy tests, occult blood tests, hematocrits, blood draws, peak flows, glucose monitoring, PPD's, injections, immunizations, flu shots, etc., Snellen tests, EKGs, Ishihara's color test, rapid strep tests, tympanograms, hearing tests, and dipstick urine samples.
6. Assist and administer suture removal, wound packing, simple dressings, nebulizer treatments, and catheterization.
7. Assist physician/provider with procedures including pelvic exams, pap smears, office surgeries, and throat cultures. Take specimens to Lab.
8. Contact pharmacy with refills and new prescription under physician/provider's supervision. Chart and log all prescription refills, new prescription, telephone calls, blood draws, injections, immunizations, monthly State immunization records and forms.
9. Fax information to Admitting, nursing homes, and specialists.
10. Phone for referral appointments, insurance clearance and log.
11. Partially complete Rx forms, Labor & Industry Claims, and disability forms.
12. Monitor and log medication samples in & out.
13. Clean rooms - take inventory and restock exam rooms, bathrooms, treatment rooms, Lab and stockroom. Stock pharmaceuticals and check refrigerator temperature daily.
14. Clean instruments; send to sterile processing.
15. Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
16. Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
17. Ensure self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
18. Ensure the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization's values.
19. Conduct self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
20. Ensure that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The professional in this position reports to the Director of Operations with clinical oversight by the Clinic Care Director. This position works closely with all Samaritan Clinic Departments and professionals in order to provide quality patient care.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
· Education:
a. Graduate of an approved school of Practical Nursing.
· License:
a. Current Washington State License as a Practical Nurse.
· Experience:
a. Experience working in a clinic setting providing support to providers in a variety of medical specialties preferred.
· Skills/Competencies:
a. Demonstrates competency on equipment listed on department specific checklist.
b. Critical thinking skills: Seeks resources for direction, when necessary. Problem solves under the direction of a physician, PA, ARNP, or RN.
c. Perform actions that demonstrate accountability. Exercises safe judgment in decision-making. Practices within legal and ethical guidelines.
d. Demonstrate competency in ability to care for customers/patients across the age continuum.
e. Current (Healthcare Provider [HCP] level) CPR certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Occasional prolonged standing/walking. Occasional lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
2. Lift/carry a minimum of 25 lbs independently and up to 50+ lbs with assistance.
3. Intermittent exertion when performing treatments.
4. Good reading eyesight.
5. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
