About this role

The Blaster/Painter is responsible for preparing, cleaning, and coating surfaces to specified standards using abrasive blasting equipment, power and hand tools, industry-standard methods, and industrial painting techniques. This role ensures that surfaces are properly prepared, treated, and protected in accordance with MISTRAS requirements, client specifications, applicable industry standards, and best practices, while meeting all safety, quality, and project requirements.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

• Safely and efficiently perform blasting and surface preparation activities in accordance with established procedures and specifications.

• Properly prepare surfaces for coating, including mixing and applying paint in accordance with Product Data Sheets (PDS), manufacturer application guidelines, and project specifications.

• Adhere to all applicable company practices, policies, procedures, and safety requirements while performing blasting and painting activities.

• Always utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times when performing blasting and painting operations.

• Maintain all tools and equipment in safe, clean, and good working conditions.

• Set up, operate, and maintain blasting equipment, spray guns, compressors, and related tools and equipment.

• Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and cleaning of tools and equipment.

• Identify and report defects, surface irregularities, damaged equipment, or other nonconformities.

• Work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather and environmental conditions.

• Follow all client, company, and regulatory safety requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Must be able to work offshore in harsh environments on a rotational or call-out basis.

• Must possess a valid government-issued identification card or driver's license.

• TWIC card required.

• Offshore certifications preferred, including Water Survival, T-HUET, and other applicable offshore training credentials.

• Must successfully pass a background check.

• Three (3) to five (5) years of painting and/or blasting experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

• Knowledge of protective coating systems, surface preparation standards (e.g., SSPC/NACE), and safe work practices.

Essential Physical Functions:

• Ability to perform strenuous, repetitive, and physically demanding work in adverse conditions, including heat, cold, wind, elevated heights, darkness, and other environmental challenges, often for extended periods.

• Frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, and reaching while performing job duties and handling tools and equipment.

• Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 60 pounds without assistance.

• Ability to stand, walk, climb, and work at elevated heights for extended periods.

• Ability to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection, as required by the job.
