About this role

Job Summary:

The Production Engineering Technician plays a critical role in transforming raw operational and production data into actionable insights that drive cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and regulatory compliance across the organization. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining data dashboards, managing reporting processes, and supporting field and engineering teams with analytical tools to inform decision-making. By leveraging industry-specific platforms such as WellView and ProdView, as well as modern data visualization and analysis tools like Power BI and Spotfire, the analyst enables enhanced visibility into operations. The position combines technical expertise with a strong understanding of oilfield operations, offering strategic recommendations backed by data integrity and compliance awareness.

Responsibilities:

Data Management & Reporting

• Collect, clean, and manage large volumes of operational data from various sources, including WellView, ProdView, and SCADA systems.

• Develop, maintain, and enhance interactive dashboards and automated reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs), production metrics, and operational trends.

• Ensure data consistency, accuracy, and integrity across multiple platforms and systems through routine audits and quality checks.

Operational Analysis & Insight Generation

• Analyze production volumes, downtime events, and equipment performance to identify inefficiencies and recommend corrective actions to the operations team.

• Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly operations to spot trends or anomalies and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.

• Work closely with operations, engineering, and field teams to contextualize data and provide targeted insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation

• Support the preparation and timely submission of required regulatory reports, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal environmental and operational standards.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for audits, inspections, and internal reporting requirements.

• Monitor ongoing compliance using automated tools, flagging potential deviations or issues proactively.

Visualization & Tool Development

• Design and build dynamic data visualizations using tools like Power BI, Spotfire, Tableau, or Google Analytics to improve accessibility and comprehension of operational data.

• Develop and optimize complex Excel spreadsheets and models using pivot tables, macros, and advanced formulas to support ad hoc analysis and reporting needs.

• Leverage scripting or querying tools (e.g., SQL, Python) to extract and manipulate data for customized analytics solutions (a plus).

Collaboration & Communication

• Serve as a data liaison between field personnel, engineers, and management, translating technical findings into actionable business recommendations.

• Provide training and support to team members on dashboard tools, data entry protocols, and reporting systems.

• Participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure alignment of data insights with operational goals and strategy.

Process Improvement & Innovation

• Identify opportunities to automate manual data tasks and streamline reporting workflows using available technologies.

• Recommend and implement data governance practices to standardize data entry, storage, and retrieval procedures across the organization.

• Support initiatives aimed at digital transformation, operational efficiency, and the adoption of new technologies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Engineering, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• 2–5 years of data analysis experience, preferably within the oil and gas or energy sector.

• Proficiency with data visualization and reporting tools: Spotfire, Power BI, Tableau, or Google Analytics.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and macros.

• Hands-on experience with industry-standard platforms such as WellView, ProdView, or similar oilfield data software.

• Working knowledge of SQL, Python, or similar tools for data manipulation and analysis (preferred but not required).

• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.

• Solid understanding of oilfield operations, production metrics, and equipment performance indicators.

• Familiarity with regulatory and environmental compliance standards relevant to oil and gas production.

• Ability to communicate complex data in clear, concise terms to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Team-oriented, adaptable, and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
