Job Overview
The Area Operations Supervisor leads janitorial and day porter teams across multiple locations to ensure facilities are clean, safe, and well-presented. This role oversees daily operations, quality standards, employee performance, and client satisfaction in both union and non-union environments. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the supervisor works independently while ensuring compliance with company policies, safety standards, and labor agreements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but are not limited to:
• Oversees accounts in assigned area, including meeting with customers, and resolving issues.
• Performs quality control check of service areas.
• Ensures all services are performed to established standards and in a timely manner.
• Coordinates cleaner's schedules.
• Interviews and hires cleaning staff
• Provides training to assigned staff
• Ensures inventories of cleaning supplies in assigned area meet company standards
• Performs all janitorial duties necessary in instances of staff shortages
• Other duties may be assigned as needed
Key qualifications
Education
• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Experience
• 2+ years in janitorial, custodial, or facilities operations
• 1+ years in a supervisory or lead role (preferred)
• Cleaning methods, chemical safety, and equipment operation
• Experience with union environments a plus
Skills & Knowledge
• Team supervision, coaching, conflict resolution
• Ability to submit work orders (FMX, UpKeep, eMaint or similar)
• Ability to operate the janitorial tracking tools (Swept, CleanTelligent or similar)
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Knowledge of inventory and supply management
• High quality control standards
• Time management and task prioritization
• Professional, client-focused approach
Travel
Regular travel is required within the assigned service area. Daily driving between sites should be expected.

The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and filing systems, as well as janitorial tools and equipment. Employees may be exposed to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, varying temperatures, and weather conditions when working outdoors.
