About this role
PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Sheet Metal Mechanic performs the installation, fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of sheet metal components and HVAC systems on commercial, industrial, or residential construction projects. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Installation & Fabrication
• Install ductwork, HVAC components, flashings, and other sheet metal systems.
• Fabricate sheet metal components in the field or shop as required.
• Measure, cut, form, and assemble materials accurately.
• Ensure all installations meet project specifications, codes, and quality standards.
Blueprint Reading & Layout
• Read and interpret construction drawings, mechanical plans, and specifications.
• Assist with layout, measurements, and system alignment on the jobsite.
• Report discrepancies or conflicts in plans to supervision.
Safety & Compliance
• Follow all company and jobsite safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in safety meetings and tool‑box talks.
• Identify potential hazards and report unsafe conditions.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, local codes, and job‑specific requirements.
Coordination & Teamwork
• Work collaboratively with foremen, supervisors, and other trades.
• Communicate clearly regarding work progress, material needs, and issues.
• Support efficient workflow and jobsite organization.
Tools & Equipment
• Properly use and maintain hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal equipment.
• Operate lifts, ladders, and jobsite equipment as required and trained.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
• 3+ years of sheet metal installation or fabrication experience.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork installation, and sheet metal techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and mechanical plans.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and workmanship quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Proficiency in handling heavy equipment and tools used in sheet metal work.
Preferred
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience in commercial HVAC or large‑scale construction projects.
• Ability to operate lifts, ladders, and jobsite equipment.
• Familiarity with workplace safety requirements and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Jobsite environment—indoors, outdoors, and potentially in confined spaces or elevated areas.
• Requires standing, climbing, lifting 50+ lbs, and working with tools.
• Exposure to noise, heat, sparks, and heavy materials.
• Work may involve travel between job sites.
