Senior Marine Electrical Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage Anemoi’s Electrical and Control Production Supervisors and Commissioning Engineers to ensure electrical and control systems are built, assembled, commissioned and tested to the highest standards.

• Work with our UK Engineering team and key suppliers in China to design, develop, and review electrical and control systems for Rotor Sails including power distribution, electro-mechanical control, automation and instrumentation.

• Manage the interfaces between the UK design team, China procurement and production team and supply chain to ensure clear and seamless communication of technical requirements to resolve efficiently any issues that arise.

• Specify appropriate electrical and control components including PLC equipment, sensors, VFDs, enclosures, glands, cables, and associated interfaces for our Rotor Sail products, with focus on quality, availability, support, cost and lead time from the local (China based) supply chain.

• Identify appropriate replacements for any components that are expensive or challenging to procure in China or are due to become obsolete.

• Prepare, review and approve technical documentation in English and Chinese including electrical drawings, bills of materials, cable schedules, load calculations, commissioning and testing procedures.

• Write clear and accurate procedures for resolving any technical issues that arise during commissioning, testing or in service, in collaboration with the Anemoi UK and China electrical and control engineers.

• Ensure clear and complete records are kept of the results of all commissioning tests and any changes that need to be made, following up with as-built drawings for each project.

• Ensure compliance with relevant marine classification societies (e.g. DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register, BV, ClassNK, CCS) and IEC standards and assist with obtaining product approvals from those classification societies.

• Support procurement and production by preparing technical specifications and evaluating vendor proposals.

• Support the integration and installation of our Rotor Sails onto vessels including review of integration design with the vessel electrical and control systems.

• Provide on-site technical support during commissioning, testing, sea trials and operational handover.

• Provide on-site or remote support to in-service maintenance and repair work.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Degree or other relevant qualifications in Electrical Engineering.

• Proven experience in marine electrical systems development, design, integration and commissioning.

• Proven experience managing a team of electrical engineers/supervisors to achieve high quality products.

• Familiarity with shipboard power management systems, switchboards, diesel generators and shaft generators.

• Good working knowledge of PLC systems and VFDs and associated hardware.

• Strong problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Familiarity with electrical CAD tools (e.g. AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).

• Knowledge of IEC and marine electrical regulations and standards including Class rule requirements for design approval and plan approval.

• Willingness to travel for shipboard inspections, commissioning and trials.

• Experience communicating with ship staff to troubleshoot systems.

• Experience working with shipyards on refit and new build projects.

• Experience working with marine electrical panel manufacturers.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with Hazardous Area Equipment and Installations.

• CompEx certification (or equivalent).

• Willingness to travel for business meetings with suppliers and integration designers.

• Willingness to undertake occasional longer periods of travel (3 to 4 weeks) to support project commissioning at shipyards and on board vessels.

• Willingness and flexibility to attend client vessels for troubleshooting.
