Join UVA Health as a remote Coding Quality Specialist 2 supporting Orthopedic Surgery Musculoskeletal services, with a primary focus on Podiatry, Wound Care, and Rheumatology. The Role
As a Coding Quality Specialist 2, you will independently review and code professional fee services while ensuring compliance with coding regulations, payer requirements, and documentation standards. You will work closely with providers and operational teams to maintain coding accuracy, improve documentation quality, and support optimal reimbursement.
In an average day, you will:
• Independently code Evaluation & Management (E/M) visits and minor procedure clinic encounters for musculoskeletal specialties.
• Apply advanced knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, NCCI edits, and global surgery rules to ensure compliant coding and charge capture.
• Review documentation related to foot and ankle disorders, wound care services, musculoskeletal conditions, arthritis, rheumatologic diseases, injections, aspirations, and other specialty procedures.
• Evaluate diagnosis specificity, laterality, anatomical detail, medical necessity, and payer requirements.
• Identify documentation gaps and determine when provider clarification or queries are appropriate.
• Distinguish between planned and performed services to ensure coding accuracy.
• Conduct charge review and work queue management within Epic and EncoderPro environments.
• Research and apply current guidance from CPT, ICD-10-CM, LCD/NCD, and payer-specific policies.
• Collaborate with physicians, practice operations teams, and coding colleagues to support coding quality and compliance initiatives.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement focused on accuracy, efficiency, and education.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience: 2+ years of relevant coding experience required. Licensure: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
The pay range for this role is $23.00 - $35.32 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
