About this role

Workplace Type: Onsite Newmont produces metals the world needs - safely, responsibly and with care for people, communities and the environment. With a 100+ year history, we continue to shape the future of mining through innovation and strong operational performance. By joining our inclusive, world-class team, you can help shape the future of mining and make a meaningful difference. Cadia is a major gold and copper mining operation in central New South Wales, about 25 kilometres from the city of Orange and 250 kilometres west of Sydney. The site is known for the Cadia East underground mine – one of the world’s largest gold deposits – which uses innovative block caving methods to produce gold doré and gold-rich copper concentrate. Unlike remote mines, Cadia is a residential (drive-in, drive-out) operation where many employees live with their families in nearby communities, enjoying the Orange region’s excellent lifestyle and amenities. Cadia’s team has a collaborative culture built around safety, innovation and community partnership. We proudly support local towns through jobs and in-kind contributions and even run an Indigenous Buddy Programme to welcome and mentor new Indigenous employees. Working at Cadia gives you all the growth opportunities of a Tier-1 mine within a friendly regional setting – a place where you can advance your skills, be home with family, and contribute to both Newmont’s success and the prosperity of local communities. Your Impact
As a Mine Geologist, you’ll provide geological expertise to support production, development mining and drilling operations at Newmont’s Cadia operation. In this role, you’ll help deliver safe, efficient and informed mining outcomes through quality geological data, grade forecasting, reconciliation and operational support across short to medium-term planning horizons.

As Part of Our Team, You Will

• Demonstrate visible safety leadership by supporting site safety standards, procedures, risk management practices and Newmont’s Always Safe culture. • Support production and reconciliation activities, including grade forecasting, stockpile strategies, variance tracking and monthly reconciliation reporting. • Undertake underground geological mapping, including 3D photogrammetry techniques, and update structural and lithological interpretations. • Coordinate and supervise operational drilling activities, including drill hole design, contractor supervision, logging and sampling of drill core. • Provide accurate and timely geological information to support Technical Services, operational teams and broader business planning requirements.

Prerequisites for Success in This Role

• A relevant degree or tertiary qualification in Geology, Earth Sciences or a related discipline. • Experience in underground mapping, grade control and reconciliation within a mining environment. • Experience with geological interpretation, geological modelling and drill hole design. • Competency with geological, mine planning or database software, with Leapfrog, Point Studio, Deswik or AcQuire experience highly regarded. • A current open manual Australian driver’s licence and valid Australian working rights.

Your Work Environment
This 12-month fixed-term residential role is based at Newmont’s Cadia operation near Orange, New South Wales, and is offered on a 5/2 roster or 9-day fortnight. Reporting to the Supervisor Geology, you will work closely with Technical Services, production, development operations, drilling contractors and other key stakeholders to support safe and efficient geological outcomes across Cadia’s operations.

At Newmont, our people are our strength and we’re committed to a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace. If you’re passionate about doing work that matters, join Newmont and help shape the future of mining.
