Job Title: Senior Mechanical Project EngineerJob DescriptionThis Senior Mechanical Project Engineer role provides technical leadership, project management, client engagement, and mentorship for multidisciplinary building design projects. You will oversee mechanical system design, quality assurance, project delivery, and construction administration while developing high-performance HVAC and mechanical solutions that align with client goals and budgets. The position offers the opportunity to work on diverse, complex building projects, act as a technical leader and mentor, and participate in a flexible hybrid work environment within a well-established architecture and engineering setting. Responsibilities • Lead mechanical engineering design efforts from conceptual planning through construction for multidisciplinary building projects. • Perform and review detailed engineering calculations and equipment selections to ensure efficient and code-compliant mechanical systems. • Develop HVAC and mechanical system concepts that align with client goals, performance requirements, and project budgets. • Evaluate existing mechanical systems, diagnose performance issues, and provide recommendations for upgrades or improvements. • Write and edit project specifications to clearly define mechanical system requirements and performance criteria. • Conduct energy payback and performance analyses to support sustainable and cost-effective design decisions. • Manage project discipline budgets, schedules, and resource allocation to ensure timely and efficient project delivery. • Coordinate mechanical design with architecture and other engineering disciplines to produce fully integrated construction documents. • Maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and project partners through clear communication and responsive service. • Conduct field reviews and provide construction phase support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and observing system installations. • Develop proposals and participate in project presentations, contributing to business development and client engagement efforts. • Mentor and guide junior engineering staff, providing technical direction, training, and professional development support. • Support plumbing system design and coordination as part of overall mechanical building systems design. • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes and standards in all mechanical and plumbing design work. Essential Skills • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Engineering Technology. • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one state, with credentials suitable for registration in other states. • 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including building systems design. • Engineering experience in one or more major building market sectors, with healthcare design experience preferred. • Proficiency in mechanical building systems design, including HVAC design and equipment selection. • Experience with engineering calculation software and equipment selection programs. • Ability to perform and review detailed engineering calculations for mechanical systems. • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit for mechanical and plumbing design and documentation. • Experience with plumbing engineering and plumbing system design. • Knowledge of building codes and standards relevant to mechanical and plumbing systems. • Demonstrated project management experience, including managing budgets, schedules, and resources. • Experience preparing construction documents for mechanical and HVAC systems. • Strong communication and coordination skills for working with architects, engineers, clients, and contractors. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working on complex commercial, institutional, and other diverse building project types. • Experience in multidisciplinary design environments involving close collaboration with architects and MEP engineers. • Comfort presenting to clients and participating in project interviews and proposal efforts. • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior engineering staff. • Experience performing energy analyses and evaluating energy payback for mechanical systems. • Interest in leading impactful building design projects across multiple markets. • Ability to adapt to hybrid work arrangements while maintaining effective collaboration and communication. Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a large office environment with over 250 architects and engineers and offers a hybrid work schedule, typically three days in the office and two days working remotely. You may work from either a Philadelphia headquarters location or another designated office, collaborating closely with architects and MEP engineers in a team-oriented setting. The position follows standard business hours, with flexibility to meet project-based deadlines and milestones. Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs, particularly for site visits, field reviews, and coordination meetings.
