How you create impact
The Chartering Operations Specialist supports the Charter Desk in delivering effective and efficient chartering operations and post-fixture support to the internal network and external direct clients. Key responsibilities include:
• Managing all post-fixture work for chartered vessels, including laytime calculations, preparing documentation, and providing daily updates. • Handling disputes and claims, and enforcing charter party terms. • Monitoring vessel performance at sea and pursuing performance claims against carriers where required. • Reviewing and authorizing booking notes while overseeing the Regional Charter Desk (RCD) function for other Kuehne+Nagel offices worldwide. • Managing contracts, including all post-fixture activity. • Vetting vendors and ensuring adherence to KN guidelines and processes. • Producing and reviewing documentation, including Charter Parties, Booking Notes, and Bills of Lading. • Liaising closely with carriers, charterers, colleagues, and shipping agents, as well as the internal Engineering team, to ensure smooth operations. • Overseeing general office administration and ensuring freight payments are made in a timely manner. • Assisting with spot chartering requirements and tenders on an ad-hoc basis. • Participating in carrier meetings and conferences within the geographical area. • Supporting the team during vessel load-outs and load-ins on board, with an expected 10–20 days of travel per year. • Communicating HSSE requirements to all relevant parties.
What we would like you to bring
• Minimum 5 years' experience in the breakbulk, heavy-lift, and bulk market. • An established network and in-depth knowledge of the breakbulk, heavy-lift, and bulk market. • A commercial mindset with strong negotiation skills. • Ability to work independently with limited supervision. • Experience attending loading and discharging operations in the field worldwide. • Familiarity with BIMCO contracts such as Conline, Gencon, Heavyliftvoy, Heavycon, and Supplytime. • Proficiency in English. • Willingness to travel occasionally for business. • Familiarity with Statements of Facts and laytime calculations. • A proven track record of managing vessel charter operations in a leading role.
