About this role

The University of Macau (UM) is a comprehensive research-oriented public university of international standing in the Macao Special Administrative Region, which is located in the western part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), one of the world’s fastest-growing hubs for technology and innovation. As part of its continued development, UM is establishing a new campus in the Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, setting the stage for the university to become the first higher education institution in Macao to extend operations into the Cooperation Zone. Scheduled to commence operations in 2028, the Cooperation Zone campus will usher in the ‘one university, two campuses’ model, further strengthening UM’s capacity for teaching and research. The Department of Ocean Science and Technology (DOST) of the Faculty of Engineering invites applications for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in the following disciplines:

Underwater acoustic communication and network Ocean remote sensing Marine imaging and visualization technology

DOST offers quality postgraduate programmes. The emphasis of our programmes is directed to the areas of ocean environment and ecology, ocean circulation, coastal disasters, and ocean technology. Currently, DOST has 14 academic staff. UM is among the top 0.1% in ESI (Essential Sciences Indicators) rankings in Engineering. The Engineering Subject of UM is ranked in the 101–125 bracket in the THE World University Rankings.

DOST houses cutting-edge facilities including the Ocean Remote Sensing and Data Perception Laboratory, Ocean Robotic Unmanned Systems Laboratory, and Ocean Disaster Prevention and Urban Public Safety Laboratory. Our on-campus Polar Orbit Satellite Ground Receiving Station enables ocean remoting sensing projects. Centre for Regional Oceans (CRO)’s laboratories – the Laboratory for Ocean Environmental Pollution Analysis and Assessment, Laboratory for Ocean Environmental Pollution Prevention and Remediation, Laboratory for Ocean Environmental Simulation and Modelling, and Laboratory for Ocean and Atmospheric Research – support collaborative research. Successful candidates will utilize advanced facilities and technologies to conduct impactful research, driving the advancement of the field of ocean science and technology.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Ocean Technology, Ocean Science, Remote Sensing, or related areas. Preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching experience at the tertiary education level.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in December 2026.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,250,200 (approximately USD154,350) for the position of Full Professor, MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
