About this role

The UCL Cancer Institute is a leading centre for cancer research, bringing together more than 400 scientists dedicated to developing more effective and less harmful cancer treatments. The Institute includes the Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre, one of the UK's largest cancer trial centres, and the CRUK City of London Centre, which promotes collaboration across UCL, King's College London, Barts Cancer Institute, and The Francis Crick Institute. It also offers a range of educational programmes, including undergraduate, master's, and PhD courses in cancer-related disciplines.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Histology Technician to join the Pathology Translational Technology Platform (TTP). Working within a small and collaborative team, you will provide high-quality histology support to researchers across UCL, contributing to projects that advance cancer research and improve patient care.

Key responsibilities include:

Tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and cryotomy Histological staining and slide scanning Tissue microarray construction Laboratory operations, data management, and quality assurance Supporting the development of molecular pathology techniques, including immunohistochemistry, nucleic acid extraction, and spatial transcriptomics

This role offers excellent exposure to a diverse research environment, working alongside students, clinicians, postdoctoral researchers, and scientists. It is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in biomedical sciences, histopathology, or translational research.

Interviews will be held in person at the UCL Cancer Institute, London, between 14–18 September.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

A BSc in Biomedical Science or a related discipline Experience working in a research laboratory environment Significant hands-on experience in microtomy and cryotomy Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accurate record-keeping Good communication and teamwork skills The ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment Confidence using databases and spreadsheets for sample and data management An enthusiasm for developing skills in histology, molecular pathology, and digital pathology
