About this role

Are you a skilled maker with a passion for carpentry, metalwork, and supporting emerging theatre artists? Do you thrive in creative workshop environments where no two days are the same?

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama’s Technical & Production team, working at the heart of a busy, collaborative workshop. You’ll play a key role in maintaining a safe, well‑equipped workshop space, supporting students as they develop their practical skills, and contributing to the creation of scenery, props, and staging for a wide range of productions.

You’ll work closely with the Workshop Manager and technical tutors, with exposure to specialist equipment—including carpentry and metalworking tools, welding equipment, and CNC machinery—while helping shape a positive, inclusive, and professionally focused learning environment. This role offers excellent opportunities to broaden your technical practice, develop new skills, and contribute to the training of the next generation of theatre makers.

The successful candidate will bring:

Strong technical knowledge of carpentry and metalworking tools, equipment, and workshop processes. A proactive, hands‑on approach with excellent problem‑solving skills and confidence in maintaining tools, equipment, and workshop spaces. A commitment to safe working practices, including familiarity with PUWER, COSHH, and manual handling regulations. Clear communication skills and the ability to support, guide, and induct students and other workshop users.
