Technical Product Manager – Bioinformatics Workflow Software Location: Oxford, UK Role Type: Full Time, Hybrid Role Overview We are seeking a Technical Product Manager to lead the delivery and execution of Oxford Nanopore’s bioinformatics workflow portfolio. This role is responsible for defining how bioinformatics workflows are planned, delivered, tested, released, and maintained across the software ecosystem. As the product owner for workflow software delivery, you will define delivery priorities, coordinate workflow execution, and ensure workflow development teams can effectively support the company’s growing bioinformatics portfolio. You will work closely with Commercial Bioinformatics Workflow Product Managers, Platform Product Managers, engineering teams, and scientific stakeholders to translate workflow requirements into scalable, reliable, and impactful software products. This role serves as the operational bridge between workflow strategy and software delivery. While Bioinformatics Workflow Product Managers own the scientific strategy, customer requirements, and roadmap for bioinformatics workflows, the Workflow Software Product Manager owns the delivery, execution, release coordination, and operational management of those workflows. A key responsibility of this role is shaping Oxford Nanopore’s approach to workflow software delivery, release management, and operational execution. Through close collaboration with engineering, workflow product management, and platform teams, you will help drive the successful delivery of workflow products and ensure customers receive high-quality bioinformatics solutions. Key Responsibilities
• Own the delivery planning and execution processes for Oxford Nanopore’s bioinformatics workflow portfolio.
• Define and prioritize workflow delivery activities that enable the timely, reliable, and high-quality release of bioinformatics workflows.
• Partner closely with Bioinformatics Workflow Product Managers to ensure workflow delivery aligns with scientific requirements, customer needs, and roadmap priorities.
• Serve as the primary product owner for workflow backlog management, sprint planning, delivery coordination, and release readiness activities.
• Own workflow release planning, delivery schedules, dependency management, and cross-functional execution across workflow development teams.
• Lead product decisions relating to workflow software delivery, testing coordination, operational readiness, and execution planning.
• Contribute to the broader bioinformatics strategy through expertise in software delivery, workflow execution, operational processes, and development best practices.
• Gather and prioritize requirements from internal stakeholders, engineering teams, and workflow product managers to improve workflow delivery effectiveness and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with engineering, research, commercial, support, and platform teams to ensure the timely and high-quality delivery of workflow features and enhancements.
• Support workflow launches, releases, documentation, release communications, and customer-facing guidance.
• Triage and prioritize workflow delivery issues, operational challenges, and release risks, identifying opportunities for process improvement and increased delivery efficiency.
• Monitor workflow delivery metrics, release performance, operational health, and development effectiveness to guide future investment and prioritization.
• Act as an internal advocate for workflow delivery excellence, operational effectiveness, and software execution best practices.
What We’re Looking For
• Significant experience in product management, technical product management, software delivery, or related software development leadership roles.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate and execute complex technical roadmaps across multiple software development teams.
• Experience working with agile software development teams, backlog management processes, release planning, and software delivery practices.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, delivery methodologies, and cross-functional execution.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across commercial, engineering, research, and product organizations.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Experience
• Experience with bioinformatics workflows, genomics software, or scientific software products.
• Familiarity with workflow execution environments, cloud-based scientific computing platforms, and software delivery ecosystems.
• Experience coordinating software releases, testing programs, and complex technical dependencies.
• Knowledge of long-read sequencing applications and the genomics software landscape.
• Experience working with agile software development teams and modern software delivery practices.
