Job Description: 60% - Social Media Content & Campaign Management • Write and brainstorm social media content; create, manage, and evaluate key social media campaigns; develop on-brand graphics; curate content across platforms; and assist with community management, social media strategy, and reporting. 25% - Content Development & Storytelling • Assist in developing blog posts, website content, newsletters, and other strategic communications materials. Research and interview sources for articles, and pitch story ideas during communications team meetings. 5% - Event Marketing & Logistics Support • Provide marketing and logistical support for College events and initiatives. 5% - Editing & Proofreading • Assist with editing, proofreading, and quality assurance of communications and marketing materials. 5% - Other Communications Duties • Perform other communications and marketing-related tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications: • Must be at least sophomore status as indicated in application materials. • Majoring in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, marketing, public relations, journalism or related field as stated in application materials. • Experience with social media as demonstrated through coursework or previous work experience. • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite as demonstrated through coursework or previous work experience.

Preferred Qualifications: • At least two semesters left prior to graduation. • Experience with writing, editing and researching through coursework or previous work experience. • Past volunteer, internship or employment experience where marketing and communications skills were used. • Understanding of social media marketing and communications metric. • Basic photography and video skills (can include using cameras, phones, i-pods or any other device)

Position Overview: The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is seeking a creative, organized individual to help tell the story of the College through our social media platforms and other digital and print channels. As a Communications Assistant, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day creation, posting, and planning of social media campaigns and activities. You will help strengthen engagement with current and prospective students, connect with key campus audiences, and support the College's overall marketing and communications strategy.

You will also play an important creative role by developing ideas for fun, engaging social media campaigns that resonate with fellow students. This fast-paced position involves a mix of writing social media content and short blog posts, as well as capturing photographs and video on the fly.

Working as part of the communications team, you will collaborate closely with the Assistant Director of Communications and the Director of Communications and Marketing. In return, you'll gain hands-on, marketable experience in a dynamic marketing and communications office while playing a creative role in promoting the University of Kansas.

Position Requirements: During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions: (1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
