Relief Miller
Job Description: Position: Relief Miller Location: Mississauga, Ontario Department: Production / Milling Operations Reports To: Head Miller Position Type: Salary/Non-Exempt - Full Time About the Position The Relief Miller is responsible for supporting and providing coverage for milling operations during absences, vacations, breaks, and peak production periods. The role ensures the safe, efficient, and consistent production of flour products while maintaining quality, food safety, equipment reliability, and housekeeping standards. Duties and Responsibilities Milling Operations • Provide coverage for Millers, Head Miller, and Milling Assistants as required. • Work rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays as operational needs dictate. • Operate and monitor flour milling equipment, including roller mills, sifters, purifiers, conveyors, and related systems. • Adjust milling equipment to maintain product quality, extraction rates, and production targets. • Monitor grain flow, flour yields, and milling performance throughout the shift. • Conduct routine inspections of milling equipment and process systems. • Record production data, downtime, and operational adjustments. • Assist other departments when required to ensure efficient plant operations Quality Assurance • Perform routine quality checks on wheat, flour, and mill streams. • Ensure products meet established quality specifications and customer requirements. • Identify and report any quality deviations to the Head Miller • Assist with corrective actions when quality standards are not met. Food Safety & Compliance
• Follow all HACCP, GMP, food safety, and sanitation requirements. • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards. • Participate in food safety inspections and audits as required. Equipment Maintenance
• Perform basic preventative maintenance and lubrication tasks. • Identify equipment issues and report maintenance requirements promptly. • Support maintenance personnel during equipment repairs and shutdowns. • Maintain cleanliness and good working condition of milling equipment. Safety
• Follow all workplace health and safety procedures. • Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE). • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and equipment hazards immediately. • Participate in safety meetings and training programs. Education/Experience
• Graduate in Engineering/ Food Processing • Previous flour milling, grain processing, feed mill, or food manufacturing experience preferred. • Knowledge of milling processes and grain handling systems is an asset. • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety. Additional Requirements
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work at heights. • Ability to lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs). • Ability to work in a dusty manufacturing environment.
