An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse/ODP to join our dynamic team in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit in Wakefield.

We are looking for a self motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic individual.

The Mid-Yorkshire Trust has 25 general theatres and three obstetric theatres across three sites in Wakefield, Pontefract and Dewsbury, delivering a dynamic and challenging range of clinical specialities.

The Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) comprises 28 bays and continues the high quality care provided within the theatre environment. We also have a dedicated and forward thinking team of clinical educators supporting and training our workforce as well as close links with the local universities.

Main duties of the job

Receive training and be assessed as clinically competent in achieving core post anaesthetic care competencies competencies following the KSF for this band. Developing further skills to allow the nurse to provide all care for any patients admitted to the individuals area of work. As experience progresses demonstrate ability to competently provide care for level 1 and level 2 Patients.

Respond appropriately in emergency situations to support the multidisciplinary team, actively participating in cardio pulmonary resuscitation.

Sensitively care for dying patients and their families, provide access to information and support. To be involved in organ donation processes as appropriate.

Safely prepare patients for discharge. Communicate verbally and in writing clear relevant information to receiving wards, specialist clinical teams, patients and carers, and other disciplines.

Through training and development, be able to transfer all levels of patients (dependant upon area of practice).

Actively involved in internal rotation within the PACU to develop clinical knowledge and skills and ensure a safe patient and staff environment in times of peak activity.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse with the NMC or on an NMC approved BSc/MSc nursing programme due to register with the NMC within 12 months.

Experience

Professional, clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree or equivalent

Knowledge and Awareness

Up to date knowledge of current nursing issues, research and practice

Skills and Abilities

Ability to plan, assess, implement and evaluate patient care. Prioritise tasks. Develop and maintain positive working relationships. Delegate and co-ordinate person centred patient care effectively. Work effectively as part of a Multidisciplinary Team. Supervise junior staff and learners in practice. An ability to perform clinical skills with dexterity for example: insertion and removal of peripheral cannulation, venepuncture and catheters. Administer medications using a range of routes IT skills which can be built upon to incorporate the use of hospital administration, information and training systems.
