Wits Donald Gordon Med Centre | Parktown, Johannesburg | South Africa Closing date: 24/08/2026 Number of positions: 1 Recruiter name: Masego Patricia Katane Reference number: 72852 Workplace Type: On-site Permanent Please note if you are an internal employee on a fixed term contract please apply using an external candidate profile and not your employee profile MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB To lead an expert patient-oriented pharmaceutical care service that promotes the appropriate use of medicines in the hospital KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS Provide Clinical Pharmacy Services to the hospital Initiate and implement the Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme and enhance the appropriate utilisation of antimicrobials Provide information related to pharmaceutical utilisation, trends, strategies and medication to the hospital Mitigate and support the management of pharmaceutical risks in the hospital Ensure accurate dispensing where applicable REQUIRED EDUCATION MPharm or a relevant postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy is required. An Antimicrobial Stewardship course and/or a qualification in Infection Prevention and Control would be highly advantageous. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE 2 - 3 years years’ experience as a Clinical or Ward Pharmacist Experience in managing an Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Antimicrobial stewardship processes and procedures Ethical pharmaceuticals Knowledge of the pharmacy and related healthcare industry Relevant Pharmacy legislation (e.g. Pharmacy Act; Good pharmacy practice; Medicine Control Act 101 of 1965) Development of pharmaceutical guidelines and protocols Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies Surgical pharmaceuticals Develop patient treatment plans Knowledge and experience working with relevant pharmacy systems (e.g. UNISOLV; AS400) Computer literate (Microsoft Office) All applicants will be considered, with the understanding that preference will be given in accordance with the Employment Equity Plan of Mediclinic Southern Africa, as well as internal applicants/employees that meet the minimum requirements.
