About this role

Specter Aerospace is seeking a Performance Analyst I/II to support the design and analysis of high-speed airbreathing testbed vehicles and weapon systems. A successful candidate will have prior experience conducting analysis of flight vehicle performance, trajectory optimization of high-speed flight vehicles, and propulsion system modeling.

Specter Aerospace is building the next generation of hypersonic vehicles for U.S. Forces and Allies. Specter is headquartered just north of Boston in Peabody, MA where it leverages its advanced propulsion technologies, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly develop supersonic and hypersonic systems. Funded by a mix of government R&D organizations and private funding, Specter is expanding its team in preparation for flight testing and full-scale production.

Role & Responsibilities

• Conduct performance assessments and trade studies in support of high-speed airbreathing weapon system design

• Utilize 3DOF trajectory optimization software (OTIS, QuickShot, Dymos) for performance analysis

• Execute 6DOF simulations and perform statistical analysis of results

• Generate propulsion models using in-house developed codes

• Coordinate with design team to provide feedback on system design

• Other duties as assigned by the company

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related discipline

• 0-3 years of relevant full-time experience

• Experience/interest in conducting performance analyses of weapon systems

• Experience with/willingness to learn trajectory optimization software (OTIS, QuickShot, Dymos)

• Experience using scripting languages (Python, BASH, MATLAB) to aid in analysis

• Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)

Desired Skills

• Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline

• 2+ years of relevant full-time experience

• Experience conducting performance analysis for high-speed weapon systems

• Experience integrating aerodynamic and propulsion models to inform system performance

• Experience conducting performance trade studies to inform system design

• Willingness to learn/perform supporting survivability analyses in AFSIM and ESAMS

• Willingness to learn/perform supporting analyses (CFD/GNC/propulsion)

• Active DoD security clearance
