Greater Lawrence Technical School is seeking GLTS instructors (up to 3), paraprofessionals (up to 2), and clerical (up to 1) to support the evening ESL classes for the parents and caregivers of multilingual learners at GLTS. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 3 teachers per session, 2 paraprofessionals per session, and 1 clerical per session. Each teacher will have a group of parents/ caregivers. One paraprofessional will support the teachers, and one paraprofessional will either support a teacher or provide child supervision. The clerical position will support with recruiting and attendance. The program will run for three sessions: Planning date: August 20th, 8:45- 9:45 am Attendance registration nights: Sept. 29th & Oct. 1st. Session 1: October 6th- November 19th Session 2: January 12th - March 4th Session 3: March 22nd- May 13th Classes will be held from 5:30-7:30, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each session is 7 weeks, 14 nights. Responsibilities for Instructor -Work with other program staff and the Director of Language, Culture, and Equity to develop lessons and activities that connect to the needs of the parents and caregivers of GLTS ML students. -Prepare and submit lessons weekly (4-2 teaching-to-prep ratio) -Teach two 2-hour classes per week for 7 weeks (1 session) -Attend planning sessions and registration nights (5 hours in total) -Maintain attendance of participants. -Complete other duties assigned by the Director of Language, Culture, and Equity Responsibilities for Paraprofessional -Work with other program staff and the Director of Language, Culture, and Equity to support lessons and activities that connect to the needs of the parents and caregivers of GLTS ML students. -Provide language support in the instructional portion of the evening OR provide child care supervision. -Attend planning sessions and registration nights (5 hours in total) -Complete other duties assigned by the Director of Language, Culture, and Equity Responsibilities for Clerical -Work with other program staff and the Director of Language, Culture, and Equity to support the needs of the parents and caregivers of GLTS ML students. -Support recruitment for the program through calling eligible participants and following up with eligible interested participants. -Attend planning session and registration nights (5 hours in total) -Maintain attendance of participants. -Complete other duties assigned by the Director of Language, Culture, and Equity Participant Registration Nights: Registration for the program will be held on Tuesday, September 29th and Thursday, October 1st from 5:30-7:30. During registration, participants will take a placement test to support appropriate grouping of adult learners in the classes. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: For instructor- Bachelor's degree or higher in Education, Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL/ ELD) and/or experience teaching ESL/ELD to adult learners. For paraprofessional- Associate's degree or higher and/or qualifying score on the ParaPro, and/or prior experience in similar role For clerical- Associate's degree or higher and/or experience in a similar role. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: For instructor-Appropriate Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensure in English as a Second Language (ESL) or English Learner (EL) education preferred for teaching staff; however, candidates with past experience in a similar role and possession of current DESE licensure will also be considered for the instructor positions. For paraprofessional-Current professional certifications appropriate to the specific role. For clerical -Current professional certifications appropriate to the specific role. ABILITY, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: For instructors- Strong foundational knowledge in designing engaging lesson plans that encourage the development of the English language in both productive and receptive skills. Ability to develop lessons that target the four language domains (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). For paraprofessionals- Strong communication skills to support student learning and strong interpersonal skills to support the development of safe and dynamic learning environments. For clerical- Strong communication skills, detailed record-keeping, and interpersonal skills that will help foster a learning community amongst the adult learners.
