ROLE DESCRIPTION The Bilingual Pre-Kindergarten Teacher at Ignite Community School – Mesquite will facilitate learning for our youngest scholars in order to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Operating within a bilingual (English/Spanish) instructional framework, this teacher enables and works with parents and students to develop the foundational competencies, language skills, and social-emotional readiness needed to function successfully in school and society. The Bilingual PreK Teacher provides leadership, motivation, and developmentally appropriate, rigorous early childhood education for all students. RESPONSIBILITIES Bilingual Instructional Delivery & Planning • Prepare and deliver effective, developmentally appropriate lessons in English and Spanish, instructing and motivating PreK scholars through play-based, inquiry-driven, and language-rich learning experiences. • Assign activities and correct classwork in a timely manner appropriate to the PreK developmental level. • Administer formative and observational assessments to evaluate student progress, record results, and communicate student growth to parents. • Provide academic and language development interventions for scholars with identified needs. • Maintain student records, classroom calendar, and family communication via the school's online grading and communication tool.
Classroom Culture & Management • Maintain a safe, joyful, and nurturing classroom environment that is conducive to early childhood learning and stimulates a spirit of curiosity and inquiry. • Maintain age-appropriate classroom management and behavior expectations consistent with Ignite's PBIS framework. • Set a positive example for classroom care and organization, encouraging students to take pride in their shared learning space. • Inspire, praise, and correct students with consistency, care, and interest to encourage early academic success and character development.
Family & Community Engagement • Regularly communicate with students and parents in both English and Spanish to discuss student progress, celebrating growth and addressing areas of need. • Actively participate in marketing and student recruiting activities as necessary, serving as a ambassador for the ICS – Mesquite PreK program. • Perform duties such as sponsoring activities, assisting families with school transitions, and supporting students in social and academic adjustment.
Professional Responsibilities & Collaboration • Participate in required faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops. • Work closely with Special Education and 504 staff to ensure student accommodations are implemented with fidelity in the PreK classroom. • Read and comply with the RES Employee Handbook, the RES Student-Parent Handbook, the Campus Handbook, and other RES manuals and procedures documents. • Perform special projects during and after school hours, and other duties as assigned (after-school hours may include, but are not limited to, tutoring, morning and afternoon student drop-off and pick-up duty, and award ceremonies). • Perform all other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education & Certification Must have: • Valid Texas State Teacher's Certification as an Elementary Generalist or Elementary Self-Contained Teacher.
And 1 of the following: • Bachelor's degree with a passing score on an ExCET/TExES Exam in the applicable grade level or content area. • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education. • Bachelor's degree with an academic minor or major (minimum of 18 credit hours) in a core academic subject area to be taught. • Bachelor's degree and documented successful, relevant work experience in the content area to be taught, established by at least one year of employment requiring demonstrated knowledge or skill in the content area, supported by a professional letter of recommendation from the educator's employer or supervisor.
Experience • Prior early childhood or PreK classroom teaching experience strongly preferred. • Experience delivering bilingual (English/Spanish) instruction in a PreK or elementary settingpreferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Passion for young learners and a deep understanding of early childhood development. • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish — required for this position. • Bilingual educator certification preferred; additional $5,000 annual stipend available for verified bilingual certification. • Strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate instructional practices for PreK scholars. • Ability to maintain a classroom of approximately 20–25 students. • Ability and patience to work interactively with young children and their families. • Strong organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, the community, peers, campus administration, and network staff in both English and Spanish. • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and student data such as developmental assessments and early literacy screening results. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish. • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. • Computer literate; proficiency in classroom and grading technology. • Ability to travel as necessary (e.g., field trips, trainings).
