About this role
The Assistant Athletic Director is a part-time position that supports the Athletic Director in managing the Pawtucket School Department’s interscholastic athletic program for both High Schools and the 3 Middle Schools. The Assistant Athletic Director reports to the Athletic Director. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Assists the Athletic Director in the preparation of the annual budget
• Responsible for coordinating the purchase of equipment as needed under the direction of the Athletic Director.
• Assists the Athletic Director in the preparation of the master sports calendar that includes league and non-league games/events.
• Coordinates gym, building and athletic field use for practices and games with the school and district office under the direction of the Athletic Director.
• Assists the Athletic Director to schedule all athletic departure times and provide bus supervision.
• Responsible for the travel arrangements for players or athletic teams (and coaches) competing in postseason competition under the direction of the Athletic Director..
• Assists the Athletic Director in the hiring of all staff including but not limited to officials, coaches, assistant coaches, chain crews, announcers, clock operators, scorekeepers, line judges, etc. while following School Department hiring policies.
• Assists the Athletic Director in reporting new employees to the Human Resources Department while complying with the Human Resources procedures.
• Acts as a resource person and coordinator for all coaches.
• Assists in supervision at home athletic events.
• In collaboration with the Athletic Director and School Principals provides a channel through which students and the community may express their concerns about an athletic program.
• Works in coordination with Pawtucket Parks and Recreation for regular scheduling/maintenance of athletic fields. In collaboration with the Athletic Director ensures a working relationship with the Rhode Island Interscholastic League in all matters pertaining to league regulations including student eligibility, coach certification, waiver hearings and realignment hearings.
• Assists the Athletic Director in the preparation of the three athletic seasons and all team awards nights / banquets with coaches.
• Ensures the health and safety for all student athletes including adhering to all documentation for medical examinations.
• Supports the Building Principals with the school mission.
• Ability to perform other duties assigned in order to meet the specific needs of the Pawtucket School Department and its students. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Recognizes that the purpose of athletics is to promote the physical, mental, moral, social, and emotional wellbeing of the individual players. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associates Degree is required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Two (2) years of successful performance as an athletic coach, experience as an Assistant Athletics Director preferred
• All pertinent certifications for the athletic director position required by the Rhode Island Interscholastic League and the Rhode Island Department of Education
• Proficiency with office technology including training or experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workplace product suites.
• Availability for work during evenings and weekends throughout the three athletic seasons ,as well as summer, as necessary
• Previous experience supervising personnel
• A valid driver’s license is required PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Frequently lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds
• Frequently required to stand, sit, walk, climb and descend steps
• Specific physical abilities include close vision and the ability to use computer monitors for long periods of time, as well as the ability to communicate verbally in person and electronically (telephone, etc).
• Significant fine finger dexterity
• The work environment is typically within a school setting and office setting , although the employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions related to outdoor sporting events.
