Position: Part-Time (20% FTE – One Day Per Week) Location: Providence or Newport, Rhode Island (assignment based on candidate and program needs) About The Met High School The Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center (The Met) is a public high school serving students in Providence and Newport, Rhode Island. The Met's nationally recognized model combines rigorous academics with real-world learning through internships, personalized learning plans, and strong relationships between students and staff. We are seeking a dynamic and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to join our team on a part-time basis. Position Overview The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging physical education instruction that promotes lifelong health, fitness, teamwork, and personal wellness. The successful candidate will create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages all students to participate and develop healthy habits. This position is approximately one day per week (20% FTE). The teaching assignment may be located in either our Providence or Newport campus, depending on the successful candidate's availability and school needs. Responsibilities ● Plan and deliver standards-based physical education instruction. ● Foster an inclusive environment that encourages participation from students of all abilities. ● Teach skills related to physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles. ● Maintain a safe learning environment and ensure appropriate supervision of students. ● Assess student progress and maintain required records. ● Collaborate with school staff to support student success. ● Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues. ● Participate in required meetings and professional responsibilities appropriate to the position. Qualifications Required ● Rhode Island certification in Physical Education or eligibility to obtain Rhode Island certification. ● Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with high school students. ● Strong classroom management and communication skills. ● Commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive learning environment. Preferred ● Experience teaching at the high school level. ● Experience working with diverse student populations. ● Knowledge of best practices in physical education, health, and student wellness. Compensation This position is 20% of a full-time teaching position, with salary and benefits (if applicable) determined according to the Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center's teacher salary schedule and applicable agreements.
