Berkley Public Schools Position Description: Special Education Paraprofessionals (1 at BMS and 2 at BCS) Position Goal: To assist the teacher in providing learning experiences that will increase the opportunities for learning and improve basic skill levels. Qualifications:
• High school diploma or its equivalent, AND
• Associates degree (or higher) OR one of the following:
• Completion of at least two years or 48 credit hours of study at an institution of higher education or,
• Successful completion of formal assessment measuring knowledge of and ability to assist classroom teachers in reading, writing and mathematics. (Completion of Parapro. &/or other requirements to be deemed highly qualified.)
Organizational Relationships:
• Reports to principal or designee and cooperates with supervising teacher.
Performance Responsibilities: Instructional Activities:
• Work with individual/small groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Work with large groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Implement instructional activities as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Assist teacher with motivating students.
• Demonstrate attentiveness to the needs of individual students.
• Provide feedback to teachers on student progress.
• Assist with checking student work.
• Assist with classroom management
• Assist classroom teacher with planning of instructional activities.
Non-Instructional Activities:
• Assist with supervision of students as assigned.
• Assist with clerical assignments and duties.
• Communicate effectively with students and staff.
• Demonstrate flexibility and initiative in his/her role.
• Treat confidential matters appropriately.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Evaluation: Will be conducted by the principal (or designee).
