Anticipated Custodian, “A” Shift 2026 - 2027 School Year District Wide, Building & Grounds Department
DESCRIPTION Custodian, “A” Shift , 7:00AM - 3:30 PM DUTIES
• Keeps building and properly including, but not limited to, sidewalks, driveways and other structures on District property in a safe, clean, and healthy condition for use by our students, faculty, and community.
• Regulates heat, air conditioning and ventilation systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity in accordance with Board policy.
• Reports to the building after inclement weather to ensure the safe opening of the building as required by the FTSSA agreement.
• Makes minor repairs as needed or assigned. Repairs that are not completed by the end of the shift shall be reported to the Head Custodian prior to their departure.
• Remains on school property for the entire shift unless excused by the building Principal, or designee. If a Custodian is excused s/he will punch out prior to departure and immediately upon return.
• Ensures the building security system is armed and all windows and doors are locked prior to departure, as assigned.
• Complies with Federal, State, Local and district laws, policies and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash and recyclable materials
• Knows how to operate and the location of all fire extinguishers, water and gas valves and electrical panels
• Works cooperatively with other district staff to ensure the safety and well being of all district constituencies
• Be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position as defined under the qualifications section.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Be a licensed driver and/or have transportation to and from work sites.
• Demonstrate a mechanical aptitude with small hand tools.
• Must possess a Black Seal Operating Engineer's license.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Compliance with the NJ FIRST Act
• Successful Criminal History Clearance
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship or appropriate employment authorization
• Ability to work “A” shift from 7:00AM - 3:30 PM
• Must be able to complete all physical duties as assigned at 100% capacity.
• Essential Functions/ Continuous (66 - 100% of work time) Physical duties:

• Working with/ near cleaning chemicals and fumes

• Reach above and below shoulders
• Repetitive arm and wrist use
• Walking ( on even walking surface )

• Push/ Pull 51 - 100 pounds
• Repetitive Grabbing/ Squeezing
• Climb ladder/ stairs
• Walking ( on uneven walking surfaces )
• Working with/ near building maintenance equipment, power tools, heights and tight places
• Other duties as may be assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT & COMPENSATION In accordance with the provisions of the BOE/FTSSA collective bargaining agreement the "A" Shift is from 7:00AM - 3:30 PM. For the 26/27 SY, compensation range is Step 1 $19.81/hourly - Step 7 $20.71/ hourly. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and education.
