Early Childhood Education Teacher Assistant Apprentice Lexington City Schools is seeking a motivated, dependable, and student-centered individual to serve as an Early Childhood Education Teacher Assistant Apprentice at an elementary school. This opportunity is designed for an individual interested in pursuing a career in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Child Development while gaining meaningful, hands-on experience in a PreK classroom. Position Responsibilities The Early Childhood Education Teacher Assistant Apprentice will work alongside an experienced teacher and school staff to:

• Support daily classroom routines, activities, and transitions.

• Assist with developmentally appropriate learning experiences and student engagement.

• Provide positive support and encouragement to young children.

• Assist with classroom organization, materials, and instructional activities.

• Develop skills in child development, communication, professionalism, and classroom support.

• Participate in on-the-job training and related apprenticeship coursework.

• Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher and school staff to support a positive, safe, and nurturing learning environment.

Required Qualifications The successful candidate must:

• Be 16 years of age or older.

• Have successfully completed NC High School Course FE11: Early Childhood Education I Honors.

• Have earned the following credentials through the Early Childhood Education I Honors course:

• First Aid, CPR/AED Certification

• North Carolina Early Childhood Credential (NCECC) equivalency

• Have successfully completed the Early Childhood Education Pre-Apprenticeship.

• Be eligible for, enrolled in, and registered to take classes at Davidson-Davie Community College as part of the Registered Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship program.

• Demonstrate dependability, professionalism, a positive attitude, and a genuine interest in working with young children.

Apprenticeship Opportunity The Registered Apprenticeship pathway combines college coursework with authentic, hands-on experience in an elementary school setting. Participants will receive mentorship and career-specific training while completing approximately 2,000 hours of on-the-job training and 144 hours of supplemental education through the apprenticeship program. Eligible high school students who register for an apprenticeship program before graduation may also qualify for a community college tuition waiver. This position provides a structured pathway from high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) and pre-apprenticeship to registered apprenticeship, postsecondary education, and a career in Early Childhood Education.
