POSITION TITLE: Custodian STATUS: Full-Time (260 Days; 8 Hours/Day) or Part-Time (20 Hours/Week); Non-Exempt PAY CATEGORY: Custodian REPORTS TO: Custodial Manager, Director of Maintenance, and/or Building Principal POSITION SUMMARY: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, safe, sanitary, and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position performs routine custodial, cleaning, light maintenance, and event support duties to ensure District facilities are well maintained, properly equipped, and conducive to learning while adhering to District standards, safety practices, and operational procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Maintain assigned school facilities in a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly condition.
• Clean and maintain classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, cafeterias, gymnasiums, libraries, entrances, stairwells, locker rooms, and other assigned areas.
• Perform routine custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, scrubbing, disinfecting, polishing, stripping, waxing, and refinishing floors as assigned.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish restroom supplies, soap, paper products, and other consumable items.
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles and properly dispose of waste materials.
• Clean windows, doors, walls, furniture, desks, fixtures, drinking fountains, and other building surfaces.
• Set up and remove tables, chairs, staging, and equipment for meetings, activities, athletic events, performances, and other District functions.
• Perform routine exterior maintenance, including removing snow, ice, leaves, weeds and debris from sidewalks, entrances, parking lots, and other assigned areas.
• Operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools safely and efficiently.
• Safely handle, store, and use cleaning chemicals and custodial supplies in accordance with District procedures and applicable safety regulations.
• Monitor custodial supply inventory and request or replenish supplies as needed.
• Perform minor maintenance duties such as changing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, making minor repairs, painting, and other routine building maintenance within the scope of the position.
• Assist with basic grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and general upkeep as assigned.
• Inspect assigned areas for maintenance, safety, and security concerns and promptly report deficiencies to the Custodial Manager, Director of Maintenance, Building Principal, or designee.
• Assist in ensuring District facilities are properly secured by locking doors, securing windows, and activating building security procedures as assigned.
• Maintain equipment and custodial storage areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
• Maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, administrators, visitors, contractors, and community members while providing courteous customer service.
• Utilize computers and technology to support district-related training, processes, and other operational activities.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, and District operations.
• Follow all District policies, administrative regulations, and applicable local, state, and federal laws and safety requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Custodial Manager, Director of Maintenance, Building Principal, or designee.

• Ability to safely operate custodial equipment, floor care equipment, hand tools, and other maintenance equipment.
• Ability to safely handle cleaning chemicals and supplies in accordance with established procedures.
• Ability to recognize, troubleshoot, and report maintenance, safety, and security concerns.
• Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor throughout the workday.
• Ability to maintain regular, reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming educational facilities.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Demonstrated aptitude for custodial, cleaning, facilities, or general maintenance work.
• Ability to read and write sufficiently to perform assigned duties.
• Ability to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision.
• Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Prior custodial, maintenance, or facilities experience is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs and ladders, reach, lift, push, pull, carry, and use repetitive hand, arm, and other body movements. The employee must frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to seventy-five (75) pounds and may occasionally move heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment. The employee regularly works indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to varying weather conditions, cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, moisture, temperature extremes, and moving mechanical equipment. The employee is required to safely operate custodial equipment and may work around powered machinery while following established safety procedures.
