DUAL LANGUAGE SPANISH TRANSITION TO KINDERGARTEN TEACHER Salary based on the 2024/2025 salary schedule. 2025/2026 salary schedule to be determined 10/14/26 - End of School Year The Dual Language Spanish Transition to Kindergarten Teacher provides learning opportunities and instruction to students in preschool who are participating in the Dual Language Program to provide the opportunity for students to attain bilingualism and biliteracy. Position Overview We are seeking a passionate and highly qualified Dual Language Spanish Early Childhood Teacher to support preschool-aged children in their transition to kindergarten within a diverse, inclusive school environment. The ideal candidate will provide developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive instruction that promotes school readiness, language development, and social-emotional growth in both Spanish and English. The Dual Language Spanish Early Childhood Teacher will collaborate with other educators to deliver an integrated, play-based curriculum grounded in early childhood education principles. • Design and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences in Spanish that align with early learning standards and support kindergarten readiness.
• Foster bilingualism, biliteracy, and socio-emotional growth through integrated instruction and play-based learning.
• Conduct observations and formative assessments to monitor developmental progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Create a nurturing, inclusive classroom environment that supports the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of students and their families.
• Collaborate with families, colleagues, and specialists to support holistic child development and transitions into kindergarten.
• Maintain clear, respectful, and culturally responsive communication with families in both Spanish and English.
• Develop routines and classroom management strategies that foster independence, confidence, and self-regulation.
• Incorporate technology and hands-on activities that engage children across all developmental domains.
• Promote curiosity, creativity, early literacy, and numeracy through purposeful, child-centered experiences.
• Attend staff meetings, engage in professional development, and contribute to school-wide efforts to support young learners.
• Support the development and implementation of a Spanish language and culture program in the early learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with families from culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
• Encourage meaningful family and community engagement in school and classroom activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• Valid Washington State teaching certification
• Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Special Education endorsement
• Strong proficiency in spoken and written Spanish and English with an Advanced-Mid score on the ACTFL (assessment administered during the hiring process)
• Understanding of child development and best practices in early childhood education
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate in team settings
Preferred:
• Endorsement or additional certification in Multicultural Education or Bilingual Education
• Experience working with preschool-aged children in bilingual or dual language settings
• Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Bilingual Education, or a related field
• Experience in dual language or immersion programs
• Familiarity with trauma-informed practices in early learning environments
• Knowledge of second language acquisition and language development
• Experience supporting culturally and economically diverse children and families
• Additional endorsements in ELL and/or reading

Benefits: Mount Vernon School District employees are eligible for SEBB medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and long-term disability (LTD) coverage if they are anticipated to work 630 hours or more during the school year. Eligibility for retirement benefits applies to employees working 3.5 hours per day or more for five or more consecutive months. Personal leave, vacation leave (for 260-day employees only), and sick leave are prorated based on full-time employment status.
