About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced paediatric nurse looking to work alongside an experienced children's team in the Paediatric Assessment Area of University Hospital of North Durham, providing excellent care to children and young people. We are looking for a paediatric nurse who is either working as a band 6 or is ready for the challenge of taking that next step. The candidate must be looking to work in a fast-paced Assessment Area. The successful candidate will be supporting new ways of working, delivering high standards of care whilst having the opportunity to expand their knowledge and gain experience around management of staffing, budgets etc.

There will be opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge, through training and development provided. You will be supported by the existing medical and nursing team to deliver high quality care to children and young people who require urgent treatment. You will be responsible for a small team off staff, ensuring they are supported and educated. You will also be expected to be a link nurse or a champion and feed back to the team in your chosen area. The focus we have in our department is family centred care

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to support staff and work within the multi-disciplinary team within the Paediatric Assessment Area. You will support and develop the team through change and will have a proactive role in the development of clinical standards and teaching within PAA. You will develop links with other departments/agencies within the Trust to ensure the delivery of an effective service for children and their families and will provide nursing care to children with varying medical and surgical conditions.

You will have responsibility for the management of the department ensuring high quality patient care whilst maintaining and improving performance. The post holder has clinical teaching and managerial responsibilities and will oversee a small team of nurses, HCAs and play specialists for which they are responsible for their development and management. You will provide strong leadership and have extensive knowledge and expertise in this area of nursing. You will be responsible to the Ward Manager and will be expected to deputise in their absence

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients in the emergency department Maintain accurate nursing record Continuing professional development Significant paediatric nursing at band 5 level. Participation in quality development and quality assurance activities Recent Paediatric Experience.

Desirable

Clinical and enhanced skills in paediatric nursing.

Special Requirements Essential

Shift Work Mixture of Days/Nights and Weekends Current evidence of working with acutely ill children and families, with up to date knowledge and skills within general paediatrics Driving posts musty have valid Full UK driving licence
